@@Kathleen2022 so then why did the charges get dropped & he was released??? Oh bc he had a receipt. Like the video states the 'confusion' occasionally occurs when someone either extends the rental period or swaps vehicles & the paperwork wasn't properly filed so in the Hertz database it shows that the vehicle is missing &then they report it stolen.

To hell with their apology. I could give a rats ass about needing to hear sorry, as that word means nothing to me. It's one thing about mfs that don't possess, know or experience what being cared for feels like. They will *always do the worst without a care, only to revert to using kind and "caring" words with the intent to wiggle their way out of experiencing whatever rank repercussions. It's disgraceful!

This isn’t the first time hertz did this. A few years back a guy was charged for murder he didn’t commit. He had an alibi that he was in another city and rented a car from hertz. Hertz claimed they didn’t have the receipt and for years the guy sat in jail. Until they revisited the case and a judge demanded hertz provide the receipt. And what do ya know they have it.

It's the cost of defending your innocence that's offensive. You may not get your job back, your friends may not believe you, you may have trouble paying your rent after losing your job, or your car payment, or your utility payment and you still have to hire an attorney to defend yourself starting about $2,000 up front. Even if you win, doesn't mean that Hertz will pay up or in full. Nor will the court or Hertz help you clean up the mess they made of your personal life. That's a permanent loss.

You have no idea what Hertz tried to pull with some service spots like NTB (My employer), Firestone, Goodyear etc. These fools claimed that the vehicles never received service (thousands of vehicles) and were trying to sue us. However, cameras and paperwork showed that the vehicles were in fact serviced. Corporate told us not to deal with Hertz anymore. Not long ago, "thieves" cleared a whole lot of hertz vehicles at a location nearby, however with all the nonsense surrounding Hertz I wouldn't be surprised if it was an inside job.

Not necessarily. I saw a police vehicle cam on KZbin where a lady did pull the Hertz rental car agreement from her glove box and the officer still arrested her for car theft anyway. All the officer cared about is what was showing in their system, not on the paperwork she had. I could not believe many of the commenters were defending the officer's actions after being shown the signed rental agreement.

"A reputable organization" I think you mean: another corporation. There's zero guarantee that they'll be better, or that they wouldn't be *even worse* . Actually, the most likely outcome would just be one of the other big companies buying all their assets and further consolidating the market towards monopoly. Even if they were replaced by another corporation that didn't do this as often, that only solves half of the problem. There's still the issue of agents of the state acting with impunity while completely failing to do the most cursory of investigations. Even if the renter had no receipt and the rental car company had no receipt, it would have only taken an officer a matter of hours to go to the rental location and review some security footage (which I guarantee Hertz has) to see that the customer was GIVEN the vehicle. How often have you seen officers chatting with each other? Or directing traffic? Or harassing random people on the street? Surely they have the time in less than SIX MONTHS to review some security footage to confirm that a stolen car was actually stolen. The insane guilty-until-proven-innocent approach to law where anything a corporation says is gospel truth with zero actual evidence is a problem no matter how "reputable" a corporation or other business entity is.

I hope they get huge settlements, that’s just crazy. I love renting cars, luckily they’ve only had minor brain farts with me. No jail time. Years ago my drivers license expired and I didn’t realize it, they didn’t notice either and it wasn’t until I returned the car the person I returned it to laughed and said yeah we should’ve caught that. Drove halfway across the country and back again.
