100-Year-Old Sets Guinness World Record After 84 Years at Same Company

Many people won’t live 84 years, let alone spend that much time working for one company. That’s what makes 100-year-old Walter Orthmann of Brazil so unique. He’s been working at a fabric company since he was 16 and his tenure there has earned him a spot in the Guinness World Record Book for having the longest career at the same company. Walter credits his longevity to his healthy lifestyle. He even drives himself to work everyday. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more.

A lot of times elderly people pass away simply because they're no longer physically active. Languishing around in nursing homes or living alone. Staying active is not only good physically, but it also has amazing emotional and mental benefits. It gives you a routine and it keeps the brain going. Amazing man, congratulations Walter!!

Problem is most companies don’t care about employee retention. They want everyone to cycle out and so they can start a new batch of people at entry level wages - they intentionally burn out employees.

My dad was in textiles for many, many years. He loved it. However, when textiles died around the late 70s, he couldn't do anything about it - he had 4 children and that was more important than anything to him. God bless Walter and thank you dad for taking care of us. This video really hit home.
