I think it's wrong on both sides. First of all, always keep your dog on a leash. We're human, not dogs, so we can't tell if a dog running at us and barking is happy or aggressive. Second, the officer's gun should be the last option, not the first. They have pepper spray and a stun gun for a reason.

And as seen in other footage prior the dog was unleashed, running and playing with children outside. It's a sad situation and dangerous for those children who were very close behind that dog at the time of the shooting. The cop acted wrongfully but it was the owners who made the first mistake.

He wants to be able to come home in peace and safely to his own respective family. It sucks for the dog, I wish it didn't have to happen, but it just goes to show that anything can happen. Judging by the fact that the officers were called because of loose dogs, it might've gone to show that other issues might've happened with this dog, IF the call was made towards this specific dog.

Honestly cop was not fully in the right but was not in the wrong either, the dog was giving signs of agression, ears back, snapping jaw, barking, all warning signs of back up or i'll bite and sometimes dogs with these signals just go straight to biting and tearing the second the teeth come out while charging so would be difficult to tell if and when biting would start before the owner would be able to grab the dog with how far away from the front door the dog got. Owner is also at fault but not really since the dog was able to rush the door, would have been best to either leash the dog first and have the kids hold the leash instead of opening the door with the dog getting overexcited with the cop near the yard.

As a dog lover, it is always sad to see a dog hurt, especially when it is due to irresponsible dog ownership, but I do believe the officer was justified here. Police were called about "out of control dogs." An officer tells them to keep the dog on a leash, and they don't. The dog then charged at an officer with fangs bared. I feel if this were a breed such as an American Pit Bull, Rottweiler, or German Shepherd, people would better understand that people should not allow dogs to run loose and that people will feel threatened if a dog approaches them aggressively. The cop said to put the dog in a leash and they’re taking the dog inside. The cop did not give them a chance to put the dog away before he walked to the house. Cop should give citizens time to react and respond to do stuff

And when he got out the car the parent and the kids stood in their front porch with the dog. Parent stood there with the dog still not put up while it's next to them 1:28 and took time to catch the dog when it ran. And when he was out his car it charged at him. They had so many chances to save their dog. They didn't run after the dog until it start attacking the officer. None to say about the situation. Even if the officer tried to run back in the car it still probably would caught him dogs run fast. It would if been jurrasic park all over again. That officer taught them a lesson that day because I honestly think even when the officer left they still would had the dog off the leash and probably would if attack someone else, or elderly or someone 3 year old.

I think we can agree that the police officer probably didnt actually feel his safety was in danger. If he did, he has never been around dogs, and/or he shouldnt be a cop. Simple fact is that he knew he could go to lethal force, so he did. No dog in the world could withstand pepper spray to the eyes. The officer could have also raised his gun and warned the people to get their dog. He also could have just gotten in his car. He could have done a lot of things. The dog was being pretty aggressive. Also, wagging tail does not always mean happiness. An aggressive dog will certainly wag its tail not to express happiness, but excitement (not related to happiness), as well as nervousness. This dog was not happy. The dog was nervous, and was baring its teeth, the wagging tail indicated it was excited and nervous. The body was also low to the ground, expressing doubt and submission. Irresponsible owners lost their dog because they couldn't tie it to a leash.
