Officer Matt Pearce I shed tears with you my friend. Your story opened for me the day our daughter Officer Ann Carrizales was shot twice, one to the face and the second to the chest, Oct. 26, 2013, Stafford, Tx. I understand the tears your precious wife shed and I shed them with her. I understand the pain you felt, and the PTSD from this encounter with death. On that day when you said to yourself, "I'M NOT DYING TODAY," is the same words our daughter Ann said to herself. After she was shot, she got into her patrol car and gave chase of 3 suspects who had shot her. She survived her wounds, and God was gracious to our family as He was with you and yours. You are a warrior! Your will to fight through this terrible incident and God's gracious mercy for you Sir, kept you alive!!! We the Carrizales family wish you a strong and speedy recovery. I've been on the wrong side of the law most of my life and have never been a fan of any LOE. I sit here crying for this officer and his wife and his kids and his partners and friends. I'm not a violent man. I know these guys have a job to do and they al want to get home to their families and friends. I just saw this and as a Service member I salute you for your service. Frequently when people see me in uniform or find out I serve they thank me for my service, I would say 99% of the time I don't know what to really say as "you're welcome" and "it is my honor to serve" no longer feel so genuine but trained answers. Also at times I feel like while they say thank you I don't really know if they know what they are thanking me for. Service goes far beyond what many will ever understand and I am so thankful to not only be able to understand it first hand, but also understand and be so grateful for all the uniforms in our country. Thank Officer Matt Pearce for such valiant service. I was in tears and am I so thankful that you made it through it. The feelings that go through me when i see or hear of cop haters....its utter disgust. I had been putting off watching this video and now I know why. It wasn't the officer that is shot..or his wife...it was the officer who went up and found him. When I heard his voice...and I saw him explain in video....I lost it. How his voice shook and his eyes immediately watered....that is what its all about. Currently an active duty service member, firstly, i salute your bravery to run face first into an unknown heavily wooded area towards a suspect that is known to be armed, in the pursuit of fulfilling your duty and keep the public safe. I have watched literal months worth of hours of police bod cam videos, investigations, documentaries etc. in the past 3-4 years, and this is definitely top 3 as far as getting to me emotionally. Before I joined the service I wanted to do law enforcement but wasn't old enough, my contract expires in 2026 and ive already talked to the department in my home town about recruiting dates. Seeing all the support you received from your community really shows what kind of person you are and i hope that i am able to make the same kind of impact in my community as well. Seeing as this video is years old i hope you are doing well to this day and still fighting the good fight

I have pulled dead, mangled bodies from cars. I have lied to people as they were dying. I said you are going to be fine as I held their hand and watched the life fade out. I have held dying babies. Bought lunch for people who were mentally ill and haven't eaten in a while. I have had people try to stab me. Fought with men trying to shoot me. Ben attacked by women who have had the shit kicked out of them by their husband as I was arresting him. I have held towels on bullet wounds. Done CPR when I knew it wouldn't help just to make family members feel better. I have torn down doors, fought in drug houses. Chased fugitives though the woods. I have been in high speed car chases. Foot chases across an interstate during rush hour traffic. I have been in crashes. Been squeezing the trigger about to kill a man when they came to their senses and stopped. Waded through large angry crowds by myself. Drove like a mad man to help a fellow officer. Let little kids who don't have much sit in my patrol car and pretend they are a cop for their birthday. I have taken a lot of people to jail. Given many breaks. Prayed for people I don't even know. Yes and at times I have been violent when I had to be. I have been kind when I could. I admit I have drove to some dark place and cried by myself when I was overwhelmed. I have missed Christmas and other holidays more than I wanted too. Every cop I know has done all these things and more for lousy pay, suckie hours and a short life expectancy. We don't want your pity, I don't care for your respect. Just let us do our jobs without killing us. From one Blue to another God Speed.

This is touching, however it goes both ways. I have gotten tickets when I have not speeded. I saw police plant drugs, tase and shoot innocent men. I have been disrespected by police officers for no reason. Many people are behind bars because of false report and bogus arrest. And many innocent lives have been taking by 🚔 police. This is so HORRIBLE. Breaks my heart for him and his family. A son husband, father, brother. A fellow Officer. So many people hurt. It's so many lives that are shattered by ONE person. A man DOING HIS JOB. For US these men literally put their on the line...and yet..there are people online showing them taunting, harassing, belittling them...and they are unable to do ONE thing to stop it..all because of these SO CALLED AMMENDMENT RIGHTS ACTIVISTS. I am so happy you survived! My son was shot in fort worth and had a damaged aorta. He was rushed to JPS which does have the best trauma unit in the state! Unfortunately the damage was so great they could not save my son....but they worked tirelessly for 24hrs and it crushed them that they could not save him...but I know that they did there best! Thank heaven God was not ready to call you home and was working through your whole team to save you! I am so thankful for all the hard work the Fort Worth police department put into my sons case...from them gathering witness statements and securing the scene to the detectives who figured out who killed my son. If it wasn't for the dedication to our safety and freedom the men who killed my boy would still be free. My son died october 8th 2016.....you were probably still in the hospital when we were there....if I ever come across you (I live close to your old beat) dont be shocked when I hug your neck! Thank you and your fellow officers for all the hard work you do!

I couldn't be more proud to call this man family I remember the day my mom had called me to tell me my cousin Matt had been shot in the line of duty I was out side playing with my son when she called all I could do us tell her it will be ok as I lived in Washington state at the time. what Matt went through that day and the time fallowing was absolutely insane him pulling through this was a blessing that only god could grant and all we could do as his family was sit back pray and be there for his wife and kids this man is my hero and his example shows that no matter how bad things get you can always pull through if you want to

This interview brings back lots of memories. They always train POs to maintain that fighting survival instinct. They train you to fight back, stay alive, but no one or no training that can prepare officers to deal with any of this afterwards. How to deal with taking someone's life in self defense, or surviving as shooting becoming disabled.
