This cover was my introduction into rock. I was 5 and my brother and I received this 8 track in the mail from Columbia House. When you got a package from them, you could send it back at no charge or keep it and pay for it. We took one look at that awesome cover art and begged my mom to not send it back. Fortunately we had a cool mom and got to listen to this 8-track ad nauseam. Then we were allowed to order Love Gun and Dynasty. Needless to say, Kiss pretty much ruled my world for much of my childhood.

Kiss wanted Frazetta but he wanted too much money...Kelly is Frazetta's cousin by marriage and happens to have a very similar style.

@insideheavy Yes you are correct. The album was released in March of 1976 so it is safe to say that it was started in 75 but completed in 76.And yes Ken Kelly was contacted in 75. Not that it matters but I felt the need to comment the actual year of the release being 76 not 75.

They said it was too violent (I don't see how). The other reason is because in the original cover the band is in their ALIVE costumes, and they wanted something new. But I agree. Both covers are good, but the original was better

@NecramoniumKISSvideo I agree 100% with you.They used the guy that did the Rock and Roll Over cover which I love, but I don't like the Sonic Boom cover all that much. It's rather bland in my opinion and the faces of KISS are too small. Ken Kelly would have made great a cover without a doubt.

@insideheavy You're welcome..Thanks for posting some cool stuff on here. I know exactly what you mean about Destroyer coming before Love gun and Rock and roll over. Ezrin had a major impact on that album's sound and feel but apparently Ace & Peter thought they should go back to the basic rock sound they had on the 1st three albums so that's what they did.Although I have a feeling it was partly due to Ace and Peter not loving Ezrins disciplined approach.But I do like RNRO & Love Gun quite a bit.

I agree with most of what you are saying. I think the problem was they said it was violent because in the background there are burning buildings, and that is destruction, which is violence. But really, I don't see what's so bad about that. I've seen released albums with worse themes of violence. In my opinion, the released album cover is just as good.
