@Zed-ti9ujI guess you’re right. They are often forced to be salesmen for the upcoming movie. But there’s plenty of them who do indeed lean into it, often when they try to leverage their celebrity status in order to campaign for a politician or some political movement, or when they make appearances that are meant to just be a glorification of their presence.

Seriously! I think it takes a lot of tough skin to be able to not take that statement as an immediate "Hey, you kinda fucked up" and instead turn that into a gentle, "Let's do better next time". Personally, I think I would have absolutely taken it the wrong way and been in shambles. A good lesson to learn about properly taking criticism, separating the good from the bad, and not letting it get to you so that you can properly move forward and grow.

There he was with a pretty blonde lady. I was like I know him. They both looked at me. I pointed at him and said you're in the movies he said yeah. I gave him the thumbs up he gave me the thumbs up back. Blonde lady got excited towards him. I just walked away didn't want to be a pest. I hope I helped him score with that lady lol. Nice guy.

James Cameron also can do almost everything on a set and he expects everyone to work as hard as he does, which ruffles some feathers. Spielberg sounds the same way. Maybe that's the reason their movies tend to turn out pretty good. If one element is off, a scene can be ruined.

That's a really odd story from Tim Blake Nelson because - never mind being on a platform 30 feet above most of the crew, in a wheelchair no less - everyone gets nervous sometimes. Though we're talking about film so all that's required is to stop and do another take. The director might not be happy about it, but it's hardly unusual. In other words, what Nelson described had nothing at all to do with professionalism though clearly that's how he interpreted what happened, which is kinda sad.

Spielberg was actually a big a-hole on set in the 1970s. He would treat actors well but was a tyrant to his crew. I think he was trying to live up to the stereotypical director persona. A female producer chewed him out for his behavior in the early 80s and since then he changed his ways.
@jkorshak
@jkorshak 5 ай бұрын
Noting skillsets and attributes contributing to an artist or a craftsman's critical and sometimes even commercial success isn't idolizing - particularly when it's among colleagues and associates who actually have worked with whoever they're talking about and work in and understand the medium. Nelson was obviously talking about Cruise on Minority Report and probably referencing the common experience from other actors who have worked with Cruise comprising the broad understanding of how prepared Cruise is. Anyone can flub lines - that's what rehearsals are for - if Nelson is exaggerating, it's probably by not too much.
