I have sent more Magnus heads down range than anyone. You were right, they will out penetrate most anything. However to say that they are only best for low poundage or traditional shooters is entirely wrong. I have tested them out to 100 yards out of the fastest crossbows and have multiple videos proving that they fly great. evry head is tuned to within 0.003" of the true centerline so if your bow is tuned and you are in a properly spined arrow they will fly great. The Magnus heads have taken every game animal on the planet, including dangerous game. Blood trails are generally great and more dependent on the shot than the type of head. If you are getting noise in flight then it is abtune issue and not the head. I have done extensive testing on noise in flight and looked at sound wave profiles. 100% made in the USA and no BS lifetime warranty.

Good video as most of yours are. However, o I’ll have to argue one comment you made on the Magnus Stinger buzzcuts. I’m running them at 290fps and they hit with my field points out to 80 yards without issue. They are no louder than standard blazer vanes either. They are also made in the USA, as you made a comment on the others. One other key aspect of Magnus, lifetime warranty. A ding or bent blade and they’ll send you a brand new head for free… tough to beat imo.

Black hornet ser razer worked good on a hog two weeks back, pass thru and didn't go 20. I did have to sharpen it tho. I also took a doe with Hades Pro 3 blade, pass thru and head looks new after. Maybe cuz hog vs deer but the whole from the 3 blade looked massive. Also, the magnus is definitely loader, still going to keep using it but only for 30yrds and under.

Great video. I like all the broadheads you mentioned. Shot Grimm reapers for years with good success, I have since switched to sevrs and they have quickly become my all time favorite head, only reason I switched from the Grimm reapers is that I had one break in target and lost confidence. The sevrs have flown better and from my experience hold up better. However being a local Utah boy I’ll always have love for Grimm reapers made locally.

Love watching your reviews man. The grim reaper in my opinion is the best mechanical on the market. But the blade retention spring has no relation to the tip. The blade has to contact the hide to open. Just simply pull off the retention cup at the base of the head and you’ll see how the blades have a groove the spring sits in. The angle at the front of the blade is what deploys them.

A question if i may; If memory serves correctly, Muzzy was a name in fixed blades that we commonly saw a lot of a few years ago....are they not considered a very good blade anymore compared to newer generation products, or what's your thoughts on that? Also, what's your thought on the 'Wasp' Drone blades? ...100 gr. specifically. Thanks in advance if you're able to reply. Stay well and keep up the great work, i always enjoy watching your vids.

Another way to compare flight characteristics is to consider how well practice field points fly for two basic reasons- small conical design and little to no wind guidance issues really no matter the arrow speed. The smaller fixed blade IMO is in the long run a better option. It’s just a simpler efficient head. The better quality steel heads can be sharpened very easily to almost a razor edge. In all honesty I’ve never even tried killing anything with any mechanical but I have shot them to play with flight characteristics. But my experience with fixed blade heads started in 1963 and they just keep on working flawlessly.

I would challenge your comments about the Magnus Stinger Buzzcuts. They claim to fly as well or better than any mechanical broadhead from any bow and that has been my experience. Plus, Magnus stands behind their products with a lifetime replacement warranty.

If you are hearing noise out of our Magnus Stinger Buzzcut there is something wrong. Also Our Stinger and Stinger Buzzcut broadheads have been shot out ofcrossbows shooting 400 feet per second. The reason is we dial in every single broadhead so the total tip runout of the broadhead is within .003 thousands of a inch for excellent flight. Thank you

When I dove into archery hunting 4 years ago I didn't think I'd ever shoot a mechanical. I shot two turkeys with fixed heads with good results, then a third turkey with a 1-1/4" 3 blade mech and it did great. I shot two smaller whitetail with Exodus last year and was super impressed with the holes they left, and I shot both deer with the same head (resharpened in between). This year I shot a big doe with a Tooth of the Arrow 1" solid 4 blade and double lunged her. She only went 35 yards, but no blood trail, and the holes weren't as big as the Exodus. Magnus Black Hornet is my second favorite fixed blade I've tried so far, but I really want to try the Micro Hades 4 blade. I also decided to try mechs on deer this year. First up is the Grim Reaper Pro 1-3/8 (bought from Bow Rack) like you showed, second up is Sevr 2.0. I also got some Whitetail Specials for turkey season. Can't wait to see how they perform!

I've been using the same 3 blade grim reapers and the QAD. I've had good luck with them, but I have lost blades off the QAD on through bone quartering away shots. I still think it's probably the best replaceable blade fixed head out there. The VPA 2 and 3 blades are one piece and what I use for traditional. Those and the other one piece, machined, heads are the most durable option.

Hard to beat a solid piece fix blade broadhead out of a well tuned bow. Been shooting Montecs for years and made the plunge into Annihilators this fall. Absolutely destroyed my Iowa buck this past Friday. Slightly quartering to at 15 yards. Took out top of heart, lungs, and exited out of the liver. Pouring blood out of him all the way till he hit dirt 100 yards later. If you're hunting deer sized game then I'd look at the sevr 1.5. I've had great luck with them out of my 60lb bow, but the IBO for mine isn't much over 300fps. If you have a 50lb bow that ibos around 340fps you'll probably be similar to my speeds, as I also shoot a 29 inch draw. The only deer I haven't had a pass through on was a doe that I hit the shoulder blade and then lodged into the spine. All shots that haven't hit the spine, even some that have gone through shoulders, has passed through completely. My arrows are around 410gr.

Is there a broadhead out there that is cut on contact with a rear deploying mechanical? I do not want any part of a mechanical system that has to flip because of the energy loss and penetration loss. So would a muzzy with four blades and a 1 inch diameter be considered 2 inches of cut surface be similar to a mechanical two blade with 2”of width? 3&4 blades at least cut across the grain of the muscle And a better chance of cutting a major artery or vein. Not?

I'm not really sure where you're getting your assumptions from on the magnus broadheads; basic physics does not relate to your high speed comment nor is any big game animal going to hear the buzzcut coming. Yes you may get a slightly smaller entrance/exit with a stinger than you would with a wider cut broadhead but i think most people would agree that having a pass through is much easier to trail. I appreciate your video but i think you're basing a long of your information on a very small sample size. I've shot 280-310fps over the last 15 years and have used magnus broadheads; never an issue that relates to speed. I've also never had a blood trail issue since almost all of my kills had clean pass throughs.

Sound travels much faster than any arrow. Why do you think so many whitetails react to the shot before the arrow reaches them? As for issues with the length of the Magnus, try shooting groups at 60 yards as well as 20 or 30 and I'd bet you'll see the negative effects. Of course most people have no business shooting game beyond 35 or 40 yards so the Magnus would be fine in the real world for the vast majority of situations.

Your claim on Magnus heads being good for women and children and traditional is ironic as if it's a good head for low poundage and short draw shooters then it's an excellent head for everyone as well. Also, I shoot Magnus out of a crossbow at over 400 fps, Buzzcuts as well as Black Hornets and both fly like a bullet out to over 80 yds. I shoot them out of my compounds as well at 280fps and over and they are like a laser and very quiet. As far as blood trails being not very good, this depends on where you hit an animal now doesn't it. The best testimonial is that Magnus has taken every game animal on the planet including Africa's big five as well as the artic big two.

The best way to fix mechanical broadhead penetration issues is to use a flat bow with heavy arrows. ;)

Our broadheads have been shot out of the fastest bows an compounds in the industray with no issues. If your bow is not turned or your not using the correctly spined arrow- no they are not going to fly. if you cannot get our broadheads to shoot at long distances out of the fastest bows on the market it either is not turned or your arrow spine is to weak

The main reason that fixed blades work better with low poundage is because fixed blades penetrate better, period. No matter what the poundage, a fixed blade doesn't have half the weaknesses of a flapper

This was a bit informative. Flight and penetration are the top factors in killing large animals. I started with mechanicals and switched to fixed blades and have indeed gotten much better penetration. Recently began studying Ed Ashby's work after killing over 10,000 animals with all sorts of data points and the data does not lie. Any moving parts on a broadhead, reduce the overall integrity of the arrow system and the success rate of ethically killing large game decreases exponentially. I've killed some very large bucks with very thick skeletal structures and I highly doubt that any mechanical can blow through a shoulder without getting stopped in the deer and with no exit wound, no arrow and almost no blood, it's a recipe for coyote food. After seeing leg bones and shoulder blades cleanly sliced through and getting complete pass throughs, I'll never go back to mechanicals. Also, Heavier arrows with between 18-27% F.O.C. offer the very best penetration results, hands down. Troy Fowler and Ed Ashby have created major hemorrhaging in the mechanical markets by presenting more field data than has ever been put together in the history of bow hunting. I recommend looking at some of the results he's uploaded on his KZbin channel, Ranch Fairy
