Glad to see more HD pool match video, especially the whole matches. A joy to watch (yeah, I can easily ignore the commentators so that would never be a prob to me).

Thank you InsidePOOL for the upload, but the match ends at 2:04:25 it's two hours of ambient conversation and balls just lying there on table!

Something is different about Johns cue tip? Don't get me wrong here I dislike rules; I am opposed to any tip material restrictions. Players should be allowed to use what they choose. I tried covering my tip with glue from a hot gun. I sure could spin the cue ball. But it turned out to cause too much spin on longer shots. How about using differently tipped cues for close than for far shots? What material do break cues have I wonder? I truly admire Johns skill.

Maybe it's just me. But I would prefer that the commentators talk about what is happening on the table. But I get the feeling that they are promoters, not players. They don't have the knowledge to comment, so they talk about everything other than the match. Good thing there is a mute button, because this is a good match with two very good players.

Scoreboard would have been nice to have on-screen.

If you switch it to 480p the video doesn't degrade, it's all 480p, no HD.

@SirNoobs Thats my fault lol. I left the stream to 2 commentators that didnt know how to stop the recording. I needed a break from the booth. This was held in Valley Forge PA and was the final match of the tournament

@genipool14 They are not playing all ball fouls, that s why he continued run. So basicly he can touch any ball except cue ball, unintentionally ofcourse.

@elec174 In a 1992 interview, Grady Mathews said "I don't think there's much question about who plays better. Irving Crane, who was one of my role models and idols even says the same thing. The modern day players are much better players. It's not that the old-timers couldn't be competitive today, but certainly they would not dominate." In 2008, Bill Incardona (b. 1943) and Danny DiLiberto (b. 1935) agreed that Thorsten Hohmann was the best straight pool player they had ever seen.

@DamienLuu Hehe, this is much more than a full match ;-) No wonder why it runs for over 4 hours

you're right. And Appleton knew he made a decisive foul. No fair play from him, but it didn't surprise me.

@Rasko988 Yeah, but he moved the 15 in such a way that it cleared a path for the 7.

@oldhippie0 i actually think it's more authentic or organic a match if you rack yourself...i mean, how hard can racking be LOL

Just want people to know, that 9 ball and straight pool are two very different avenues. At one time, I played on the level of these guys, and I even saw some mistakes that I woulldn't have made. When I was playing on the level, I had guys that could give me the 8 playing 9 ball, and beat me. Playing straight pool and one pocket I would beat them. gambling..Just my 2 cents..

Totally agreed, if you know really much about pool, you wouldn´t post something like "TheElPrado" did ;-) I´m not the weakest player on earth i guess and made runs over 100 in straight pool, but i wouldn´t win anything against a player like schmidt, ortmann, deuel or other caliber players, i tried years ago and got stuck with it :-))) But you have to be in that situation to realize how good they really are i guess... Kind regards

JUMBOpin well I guess you don't think it's a good idea but I can rack it so I can make a ball on almost every time I break and if I can do that so can they !! think about it !! Besides it looks great for the sport and it is more Authentic....lol

no offence, but if -and only if- your 7 racks run out story is true, i guess you played him like 100 times, loosing about 97 attempts to win a set... He´s in fact a great player, and i often heard storys about people go about a champion like "Yeah, but i beat him there and then.." This is all boring stuff, beat him now in tournaments and come up with a result or better ranking or higher straight pool run than he has... Yeah, i thought so...

forget about high runs they mean nothing, consistency is everything in pool and just about every sport. In the days of Mosconi and Irving Crane a player would be lucky to come to the table 2 times in a 150 point game. I watched the first hour of this game and neither player impressed me at all. Easy shots were missed and poor position.

while that sounds impressive Mizerak has the highest ave inning in championship play which is just over 15.5. that includes safes and everything. Keep in mind Mosconi played on 8 ft table with 5-inch pockets back then. The equipment is much tougher these days. Under thos conditions, they would crush the older guys because of technology and improvements in training methods. But they would not be here if not for the guys who laid the trail for them to run on.
