We had an outhouse growing up. When we where young and my cousins where visiting. My little brother was pestering us older kids and we locked him in the outhouse and went off playing and forgot about him. That was till my momma came outside looking for him. My brother fell asleep in the outhouse and we where busy playing till she wanted to know where he was, we all looked at one another like we had seen a ghost. Needless to say, we all got a lashing over that. Have a blessed day!

Spray WD40 up around the inside of the hole will help deter spiders from nesting there. I also use WD40 under eves to prevent wasps from building nests.

"No marshmallows over this fire" :-) Love it! I wish I had an outhouse, seriously, because that would most likely mean I had a nice piece of wooded property and lived in a cabin. That's my dream, a lakeside cabin surrounded by woods...

LOL!!! We have a foam seat for sure! I got a good laugh with this video! We have ALWAYS had outhouses here in Alaska. We have 2 on our property in Chickaloon, and 1 on our other property in the Butte. Thanks for the laugh Brooke! :)

Nice tour. Flag is OK, and it's hung the right way! I use lime in my privy, helps decay the matter, even paper, helps with odor also. A can of bug spray is always handy. Oh and wipe under the seat before sitting, spiders like to hide there. A small buddy propane heater takes the chill off. Enjoy your stay. JV

My Mom had a screen door on our outhouse growing up,she put a sheet of thin plywood across the bottom to add a little privacy. but the view was great!

Wow, that was WAY fancier than the outhouse we used when I was a kid. We did get a foam seat eventually. It was kept in the cabin and carried out when you had to go.

My country cousins had a hand water pump in the kitchen for water and an outhouse on skids. Each time the house house pit was about half full they would tow it to another spot over another pit then use the diggings to fill in the old pit. There was always extra dirt that they used elsewhere.

Hi Brook. You have a very high class outhouse the ones I used out there this summer had no doors on them, but they did have really nice views. I liked keeping wet wipes in mine. I had a foam seat they weren't painted inside or out. Maybe when I go back out ill upgrade my outhouse. Thanks for a fun vid.
@danofiremano7 жыл бұрын
I suppose the flag is o.k., but it's hung backwards. Proper flag etiquette would have the stars on the right if hung from the short end as you have it here. Great video!

Only today did your channel show up in my recommended list, I watched the Alone final last night , enjoyed you and your husband more than the others , you really did it right ! I grew up with an outhouse, no fun at 0 or less degrees, ( NC mtns . 1950s-60s ) snow blowing thru the cracks, never had paper other than the Sears Catalog, they didn work as well once they started printing slick colored pages, never had a plastic seat only wood, we Could raise it tho , kept it up so no spiders .

I used outhouses as a child in rural Western New York and the family had other useful tips: agricultural lime and sawdust to aid composting and control odors...or there were people who liked sphagnum peat. Being farmers, we cleaned our outhouse seasonally and spread the results along with other animal manure. All the mood lighting in the world won't make a smelly outhouse inviting.
@therealgirlinthewoods6 жыл бұрын
haha thanks for sharing james- right about the lighting ;)

Hey Brooke, I've never saw this video, I had to laugh. My outhouse is the same color and I keep a brown paper bag as well and then take it to the burn barrel. I have a picture of an old trapper pulling his britches up with one hand and opening up the door with the other and coming face to face with a bear. Hope you get this.

Hi a ya Brooke! Ya know what? It’s always fun to hang out with u (via KZbin) but this video, you are a hoot, watched it several times!!! Don’t think I’ve ever suggested anything to u (cause u know more than I) I don’t know if u know this, or if u have a ton of fly’s hanging around the seat, I have a book on old ways to keep f most fly’s away. A pipe is inserted just below the seat, then straight out the side, make a 90 degree angle up past roof, screen n top of pipe, add cap to keep rain out. But being up north u may not have a bad a fly problem we have down south, thanks Brooke, I know we r not friends, I see u as one, you have a good heart, thank u for being u, the smiles and laughter u bring me, the breath taking views I see in and threw your eyes, thank you (ok, I guess what I said sounded corny, but please Brooke, viewers, step n to my shoes, those I’ve met, lies, cheats, thieves and users, okay) I see Brooke as noon of these, sry for my blabbering

You mention putting burnables into the paper sack. Did you know you can burn human waste also? Yep, I do it a lot. In fact, my outhouse is a shower tent in which I put a 5 gallon bucket lined with a plastic bag. Toss it right on the fire (not while I'm cooking of course) and in a short time it's all gone! *POOF!
