My mom is form Chittagong and 5 years ago for my maternal grandparents death anniversary they held a mezban. I remember going frantically from home to the venue and back again, but still having a lot of fun. Also Mezban can be held anytime by anyone for literally anything especially in Chittagong it's main purpose is bringing friends, family & community together just to have a good time.

@@MeanGuy969 You are the *only real* disgusting one here, a true *bigot* . Every culture in the world has its own take on death, its own philosophy. These are mainly Bengali Muslim people. Like most people, they too grieve and mourn the loss of loved ones, but then as Muslims they also believe this life on earth is NOT the end of the story of life, rather it's merely a brief temporary sojourn and death ushers us into the beginning of the eternity of true life, the "afterlife" where Man will meet his/her maker in unbounded happiness, in the fulfillment of his true existence. So there is nothing really to be sorry about death which is merely a transition from transience to permanence of existence, a spiritual liberation and freedom. If you take this bigger picture into account, people should be happy about it instead, this natural consequence of earthly life should be "celebrated" really. Now, everybody in the earth may not share this belief or perspective, although many do both muslims and non-muslims, but not recognizing other people's perspective (of billions and billions of people for that matter, irrespective of religion or culture) on their own life and death, the diversity of human culture and perspectives, and calling them *"disgusting"* for it or for being different from you, is really *_disgustingly and shockingly barbaric!!!_*
@যমদূত9 ай бұрын
@@MeanGuy969 Every culture around the world holds its unique perspective on death and its own philosophy surrounding it. Here, we're mainly discussing the beliefs of Bengali Muslim people. Like most individuals, they also experience grief and mourning upon losing loved ones. However, as Muslims, they view life on earth not as the end of the story, but rather as a temporary sojourn. According to their beliefs, death marks the beginning of an eternity, where individuals meet their maker in boundless happiness, fulfilling their true existence in the afterlife. Therefore, they see death not as something to mourn, but as a transition from transience to permanence, a spiritual liberation and freedom. When considering this broader perspective, one might argue that death, as a natural consequence of earthly life, should be celebrated. It's essential to recognize that not everyone on earth shares this belief or perspective. But dismissing or condemning others' beliefs as 'disgusting' simply because they differ from our own is not only *narrow-minded and bigoted* but also *_barbaric,_* given the vast diversity of human culture and perspectives on life and death. _This kind of barbarism is what really needs to be abolished from the world!!!_

Always amazes me how these people in countries that you would generally assume are not that rich, can just have feasts and feed 40,000 people. Do you have any kind of idea what kind of a bill that would be here in the United States to have to find other than you to house that many people and higher the chefs and buy all of the food? Of course their economy is a whole lot different than it's a community thing. The farmers donate cows and the gardeners donate veggies. In my mind that is what true communism is. Maybe the only payment the farmers ask for is a little bit of help in the fields when Harvest time comes around or something, and I'm sure there are plenty of fellow community members more than willing to help in that situation. Sometimes I kind of wish our country could exist like that. Not relying so much on wealth to purchase things and hire people but rely on the community and each other.
@MohammedKhaled-ju7gy10 ай бұрын
No farmers are donating anything here. People who want to host these events pay for the cows and vegetables. A 300 kilo cow costs on average 1700-2000$ in bd so you can do the math on rough estimates

For those who are wondering if this type of cooking is hygienic or not let tell you some facts 1. Mezban is a Muslim tradition. Muslims are the most hygienic people out there. We wash ourselves five times a day and we take showers on top of that. All of the ingredients are also thoroughly washed before cooking. 2. Mezban is cooked in such high temperatures that IF any bacteria were to get in it will be obliterated by the 3-4 hours of slow cooking. 3.Mezban is also where those who have the money can donate for the feast willingly. Nobody is forced. The food cooked is free for all. As long as you hear the call your welcomed to eat. This is the true hospitality of Bangladesh
