One of the reasons I enjoy watching your videos its much more inline with a the smaller family farm. Not the mega operation that for many farmers isn't realistic . I enjoy anything farming and appreciate how you explain things.

Wish I was closer I enjoy modifying things to fit the new need. We converted a 850 New Holland Round Baler to a unroller to rebale our big round bales to small squares as we need them. Have a good weekend

We just took our wire cribs and fitted old barn metal on the sides... keeps rain and critters out, and much cheaper than grain bins.

Very interesting to see all the innermost giblets of the corn picker and no cameras were harmed in the process. The next rainy day should give you a chance to fix up some side boards for that wagon.

Loading modern corn yields into that husking bed shows how some can sneak though with husks by riding other ears.
@crazydave44554 жыл бұрын
That Deere design is quite a bit different than our new idea picker. The new idea handles the modern yields pretty well.

We put up a corn crib I got for free a couple weeks ago. Already got a bunch of corn in it. I have my cousins ride in the wagon to push it all around.

You might talk to someone at a seed plant, like OliverFarmBoy... or go tour a seed plant. My nephew and his sister's FIL work at the Pioneer seed plant up in Plymouth, Indiana. All their seed corn is picked by 8-12 row pickers and dumped into trucks, and hauled up to their plant and put into bins. Now these are some MEGA bins, of course, but from what they've told me basically they have a tunnel underneath the center of the bin with a conveyor in there-- they open the door in the bottom and the corn dumps onto the conveyor which drags it out from under the bin. This tunnel is big enough that guys can crawl in there to unplug it when something bad happens (as my nephew has had to do before). The corn then goes through cleaners and huskers and shellers, more cleaners and sorters and stuff and then is bagged or put into bulks. Later! OL J R : )

Been a long time since I seen a picker up close. We used to pick everything until our feed mill quit taking ear corn to grind. I got the run the picker some. Used to see a lot of deer while running it.

What few pickers that are left in my area are New Idea or Ford. I can not recall ever seeing a green machine working in the field. Yours seems to handle the job just fine. I'm sure you have mentioned the 2+2 lately but somehow I've missed your comment. What is the current status of the 2+2 ?

A lag bolt in a small hand held drill, a short piece of 2 in pvc pipe with 4 screws drilled into the end of it...screws of corse facing in. Screw the lag bolt into the center of the ear, stick the narrow end of the ear into the pvc...pull the trigger...boom shell corn. Kevin

Great views of essentially the front end of every modern corn head... But where does the shelled corn end up- as it doesn't seem to make it to the wagon...
@boehmfarm42764 жыл бұрын
It goes in the wagon.
@l337pwnage Жыл бұрын
If the head shells it, you're SOL on every picker I'm aware of, but they all seem to have kernel recovery under the the husking bed. However, it can be hard to see on many machines. In this case, go to the part that shows cobs dropping in the elevator to the wagon. At the far left you see a little paddle conveyor dumping kernels into the main elevator. Those are recovered kernels. For extra credit, try to figure out where the trash blower is on this machine. ;)

The chain doesn't sit in that sprocket well. The chain is newer and I think the sprocket is worn.
