These are really great ideas. I remember going to a fancy Christmas party when I was 6 months pregnant and I didn't want to buy anything I would only wear once. I wore a simple black dress and sewed a glitzy vest to go over it. 23 years ago now.

Oh wow, what a great idea. I have a company holiday party in December and i just remembered that i have a beautiful infinity gold scarf that I never use, i can make it into a capelet. Brilliant! I think i have that Burda pattern in one of the magazines too. Thank you for the idea!

This was really creative. I have a small amount of silk burnout velvet and a capelet would be a perfect use for it.

I have a loose fitting kimono style topper in a burnout velvet. I wore it once. It’s just the wrong length does nothing for me. I’m going to see if I can rework it into something like what you’ve shown. I have nothing to lose!

I think it should be a crime to sell any garment, with the fabric content of polyester for more than $50. Polyester is one of the cheapest fabrics to manufacture. That being said, I absolutely love all of your suggested fabrics, especially the first one with the flowers. Now I need to find an occasion to wear this as at most of my holiday parties everyone wears jeans and sweaters.😂
