Rigsby 1 Jericho started out at a time where the wrestlers often went out on the town after every show. They partied all night and normally slept during the day before the show. Guys like him, the Dudleys, even Taker could probably drink most people under the table

Great point by Chris. In my opinion, the two most important things you have to ask about a match: did it make money, and were people emotionally invested into the match.

Jim Cornette would love this interview. This is what the young guys don't get. Yes, the ring work has to be good but the STORY is what sells. Always has, always will. The top guys in aew are all former WWE guys. Moxley Jericho, and Cody. They know how to tell a story.
@willnelson9906
@willnelson9906 4 жыл бұрын
i mean, guys like kenny omega and okada also know how to tell a story, or ZSJ, or Ospreay, or scurll, really all the best wrestlers today are the ones who can properly tell a story in my opinion. gargano vs ciampa, one of the greatest rivalries in nxt/wwe history, with a handful of epic matches, all telling one wonderful story,
@willnelson9906
@willnelson9906 4 жыл бұрын
@Joey Pastrana firstly, i said one of the greatest, not The greatest, second, kenny omega tells a story every time he has a match, his finisher, the one winged angel, nobody kicks out of, but it's complicated to set-up, so his other offensive manuvers focus on getting his opponents weak and dizzy. okada and omega had 4 of the best matches in NJPW history, with psychology and story telling, will Ospreay is insanely gifted, despite y'all calling him a gif wrestler, he's fought plenty of storied matches, his entire feud with jimmy havoc, as an example. marty scurll can't be THAT charasmatic without being able to tell a good story, plus him and ZSJ are technical wrestlers, if they can't sell the story that "they're aiming to weaken this specific part of my opponent" then they wouldn't be as famous as they are.
@willnelson9906
@willnelson9906 4 жыл бұрын
@Joey Pastrana the only two examples of any of these guys "no-selling" would be that one match with ospreay and ricochet, and ZSJ. while i think ospreay and ricochet could have done a "better" job of selling the moves, that wasn't really what the audience wanted, they wanted crazy athletic shit, and that's what they got. and ZSJ does feel like he's not "as" good at selling as he should be, but he's still young, he'll learn.
@willnelson9906
@willnelson9906 4 жыл бұрын
@Joey Pastrana and for some people, matches aren't supposed to be guys powerslaming each-other around the ring until the other dies of heart-failure, and others think matches aren't supposed to involve piledrivers or thumbtacks and blood, that's what's special about wrestling, it's objective and diverse, one guy could have a very different match with two different opponents, because those two opponents practice and perform wrestling in their own, preferred style. i enjoy just about every type of match, i'm very selective about my "hard-nos" in wrestling, i don't like large head-shots, and usually i prefer matches to not have too many crazy piledrivers, but the guy next to me may be there to watch a cruiser-weight match, and the other a death match, we're all fans of wrestling, but we can't say one wrestler or another is bad because they don't cater to our specific tastes.
@willnelson9906
@willnelson9906 4 жыл бұрын
@Joey Pastrana what's the story with brock lesnar and his 5 suplexs and an f5 every match? there is none. he just wants to get paid, at least with the guys who like spots, they're doing it to entertain. and yeah, even in spotfests, there can be a good story there too, it's not that hard to find even, maybe a game of one-upmanship, maybe one guy is trying to keep the other grounded, either with technical offense or pure strength over a smaller opponent, or maybe the match doesn't need a story because it's just for fun, a nice little exhibition or something.

Jericho was a perfect opponent for Omega because Jericho not be as big a star of a stone cold or John Cena or the rock but his respected by just about everyone and he is coming off a resurgence of his character where he is over af and now for one match he is playing a different character a believable heel that thinks his is the best I don't think any other WWE superstar at the time would the same feel to them as a replacement so people might say john Cena but the thing about John Cena is people like him but people at the same time hate and him vs Kenny would be a big I mean BIG match it's just you would never believe it would happen and shit it would probably be the best match ever in terms of hype and style. Also probably Brock Lesnar vs Kenny that would sell through the roof
