He hated everything HBK stood for.. Even though Bret cheated on his wife with Sunny.. Bret portrayed the image of an “honorable” guy with morals… This is why he almost completely failed in the attitude era after a while… Stone Cold, HBK, The Rock and more guys knew how to draw on the “immorality” of fans. Bret couldn’t do that… He was self-centered and pretty possessive over the outcome of matches. He also didnt play the locker room game the best way he could…

And that's one more reason why the WWF let Bret walk. The guy didn't wanna change with the times. Everyone else played ball. And the "Attitude Era" is seen by most fans as the best era in history. Bret was no more a degenerate than HBK. HBK never hid his lifestyle, and his character in wrestling resembled his personal life at the time. Shawn even called Bret out about it, and how big of hypocrite he was. Brett has his own "Sunny Days" on the road.

Anybody who hates Hogan is alright in my book. Most of Bret's feelings about these topics I was already aware of anyway, but I'll listen to Bret shoot on the business any day of the week and enjoy it. As for WCW--even if he didn't get injured--the company was in Russo's toilet by the time Bret finally did get the Big Gold, so basically it was a hollow victory no matter what....

Supposably according to google take it for what you will Bret Hart is worth 14 million dollars that's more money than the average person will ever see in their lifetime. I believe you should make as much money as you can as a professional wrestler and then get out of the business. You say the wrestling business never gave anything back to Bret Harte. I'll look and give him a lifestyle it's up to the competitor. Just like they say in the UFC a lot of Fighters complain they have nothing left when they retire. Well if you're making $50,000 per fight you work three times a year that's $150,000 it's not up to WWE or the UFC or the NFL. And make you save your money they say the average NFL players broke within 3 years of retirement you know the reason why they're living in multimillion-dollar homes and have multi million dollars worth of cars. If you were like LeBron James living in a 4-bedroom 3-bath house that's 3000 square feet and your mortgage was 1200 bucks and you are driving a Honda Accord then of course you're going to have a ton of money left over. Are you going to think about it these guys are driving Land Rovers Ferraris Porsches living in 12 bedroom homes it's their fault they have nothing to show for it when they retire it's the same thing with you working tonight to 5 job if you never save money or invest you be broke when you retire

He wants to talk about integrity but the reality of the situation is he was more or less holding the promoter's belt ransom. If the promoter wants you to fucking lose the belt on your way out then fucking do what he wants because it is his company. The real world equivalent to what he did would be if your employer sent you to the bank with a deposit. Thing is, you don't like the bank that they use because of its location and a previous situation with one of its employees. So you demand that they switch banks or you are not making the deposit. If you were to do that, your ass would be sitting in a jail cell. Bret is so far removed from reality that this logic would be lost on him. Sure, Shawn may have been a shithead & Bret might be a "Canadian Hero" but if that's who & where the owner of the company wants to go with then you do your fucking job. @@TheShadowBrigade You're not exactly wrong but there is a pretty solid difference. When you have an arrangement with your company it should be honored on "both" sides. The bigger issue here is although Bret did refuse to do business, Bret's boss didn't do his job as a boss. Instead the boss played along with the shenanigans as if he too were a part of it. It would be like in your bank scenario in which your employer acknowledges your refusal to make the deposit, but then instead of taking the appropriate disciplinary action as an employer would, they instead send another employee to fight you and take the deposit back which adds to the drama. Which is exactly what happened here. If this was about following procedures then the company should have also followed its own procedure instead of validating what it's employee did by playing along. That's even less professional than what the employee did. The other thing is Bret said he would have dropped it but Shawn being Shawn, Bret said fk him basically. Their boss said his piece but then said to Bret ok and instead plotted and schemed a way around that refusal. Don't employers terminate employees for issues with workplace ethics? If Vince wasn't ok with it then Vince shouldn't have left it up to the employees to figure it out. What employer leaves it up to its employees to dispute over how to handle a bank deposit?

Bret's biggest mistake was moving to wcw. Wwe had great plans for him. He would had done great and very well as austin's rival on attitude era. The hart foundation was a huge great heel group that could had rivaled the nwo. but when bret decided to move to wcw, wcw wrecked him. Wcw can't really give him a decent role compared to what roles he could had if he didn't left wwe. Then, came the time when goldberg the crappiest wrestler known for not being good on taking care on what he does. Goldberg ruined the great career that bret had. When people called him bitter & angry, even roasting Bret over it, I always asked myself: how can you possibly blame someone being bitter after losing (almost) everything the person loved? Not just liked but loved? It never got into my brain how even other wrestlers and officials or even fans were roasting Bret over it. Bret Hart lost SO many things he loved from the bottom of his heart, from Owen to Wrestling to everything than went with it, and people laughed about him being bitter all these years. My perception of Bret Hart is nothing but having absolute respect for him. His anger is still there. It's not right to blame Goldberg for his career ending nor should he make comments like Goldberg could have given him some money from his 3 million dollar deal overseas. This interview sounded like a giant pitty party for himself. Brett knew the risks of potential injury everytime he stepped into that ring more than any other wrestler at that time because he seen it up close and personal with Owen. I equate his wrestling career ending to you or I losing our jobs and having to start over. It happens everyday to normal people who usually have no savings while he had millions and still does, but they get through it. It's called life. He is still living in the past which is keeping him from fully living in the present. Brett was worth millions when he medically retired and is worth more even today. Life isn't about how hard you can hit, or be hit. Life is about getting hit, to continue to get hit and to keep getting up and moving forward because life will beat you down if you let it. My original statement is he is wrong to say Goldberg owes him. Goldberg doesn't owe him anything. He made the choice to get in that ring knowing the risks. He knew the risks more than any other wrestler in that day and age because of his first hand experience with Owen. He should be mad at no one but himself. He chose to get in that ring. He chose not to sue the company or Goldberg. Crying about your life on national TV isn't a right. Claiming the world owes you isn't a right and it’s wrong. I hear people say he overcame all of this. No he hasn’t, he is still very angry about it as it obviously shows in this video. The fact that he still crying about it decades later is sad and pathetic in my opinion. You stated that Brett will continue to live without his brother, his health and his career by circumstances he didn’t choose. You are absolutely right. I just want to say he would have lost those 3 things eventually in life regardless of circumstances as well you and I will too one day. This is life, life has risks, life isn't fair, life can be very cruel. The point about this is to accept these facts early and mentally prepare, then find it within yourself to be thankful for what you do have. In other words they take Vince’s side on the whole Montreal Screwjob issue and consider Bret wrong and to be a whiner because in their tiny authoritarian minds you always have to listen to and follow your bosses orders and do what’s best for your boss no matter what. Most likely Bret ultimately chose not to sue as one day he probably hoped to secure and preserve his pro wrestling legacy via having positive DVD’s and Blu Ray discs of his career released to the public over time by Vince/WWE but which would be a next to impossible thing to have happen once you’re blacklisted which suing Vince and winning very bigly would likely provoke. That and despite all of Bret’s righteous anger at WWE he likely still didn’t want to hurt the business by suing WWE and winning big as this could hurt many of the guy’s and their careers who supported Bret and made it harder for the WWE to function in general since it takes an enormous amount of money to keep a global wrestling promotion like that open. Lastly whatever other character and personality flaws Bret freely lists about himself in his book which these authoritarian fans have likely never read so he’s not exactly hiding any deep dark secrets about himself. He tells us he was a bad husband who cheated on Julie his first wife and that Owen was a far more loyal man to his own wife Martha than Bret ever himself was to his and Bret also admits to doing hard drugs with Roddy Piper and the boys on the road likely for the same reason most wrestlers give for doing them which is to combat the physical pain of the job as well it’s often to combat loneliness and boredom.

All 3 of them including Shawn basically made Bret’s life hell. They were pretty much constantly in competition with each other for the WWF Title, with occasional interference from Sid or Vader, and all of them really laid the foundations for his ‘97 heel turn and the re-formation of the Hart Foundation with the additions of Davey Boy, Brian Pillman and Owen. With Bret now having family watching his back, the stable dominated. 97 was a great year I feel for WWF.

I'm 43 years old. I watched Bret Hart from 1984- 1998. He was the best technician I've ever seen in the ring. His ring psychology could be a semester in college in itself. He was so freaking smooth... His heal work in the mid 80's was vicious. Bret was the guy that had to fall for wrestling to break kayfabe. Such a shame... However, Bret has his health, family, happiness, and money to live comfortable the rest of his life.

Ultimately I think the story Scott Hall tells about how he decorated his house with giant pictures of himself as a shrine to the hit man is the other half of that story. Bret Hart had a hole in the back of his neck and his doctor said the back of his head felt like "hamburger." You do NOT get those injuries from being kicked in the face. Goldberg gave Bret a concussion, but the sum of Bret's pre-existing injuries led to his doctor telling him his career was over. Bret, and the internet, just want to blame Goldberg. Goldberg was unsafe and was too green for the push he had, but he didn't end Bret's career. It seems like he likes to blame other people for his problems. Who knows how much longer Bret's career would have been if he had taken time off and healed. Hell, after that Goldberg match Bret wrestled NINE more times and had matches involving weapons.

The thing you have to love about Bret, is he is to wrestling what Jordan or Kobe are to basketball, just in terms of his mentality - if not his career accomplishments. Watching this truly made me feel like crying for Bret Hart. One of the comments I read on here said how Bret Hart was an honorable man in a dishonorable environment. That is so true. I'll probably be a Bret Hart fan until I'm gone from this earth. Bret Hart and his brother deserved better. Anyone who thinks Bret is still bitter needs to pay attention to the 11:30 mark. He explicitly compares it to carrying around a big bag of rocks that he knows he needs to let go and was thankful that he recovered from the stroke properly and wasn't permanently disabled. I for one don't believe Bret is bitter. I just think he takes himself too seriously but when you're in one of wrestling's most prominent families, it's almost forced on ya.

I was just a kid somewhere in Germany, watching WWF recordings at late night television ... but damn, he gave me goosebumps every entrance. In my mind, he had to be the coolest guy on the planet.
