I caught up with Sudhir Sitapati in the context of his recently published book - The CEO Factory - Management Lessons from Hindustan Unilever. We spoke at length about several elements of the secret sauce of HUL (role of the HR function, how it thinks about potential, entrepreneurial professional culture, treatment of mavericks and more). Sudhir also reflects on how he has thought about his journey at various points in time and what got him to HUL and why he has chosen to stay in HUL along the way.

Best thing was, when Sudhir said, early heroes should not be made.❤️ Now, I am fine and will wait for my turn to be a hero. Maybe someday in HUL

It was great to hear this conversation and as a take away there are great direction setting attributes. One Question...On Kissan it was said that building category (solving unsolved problem) should work better so how could in the example shared how could adding new products of Kissan is not a right decision given from category perspective this seems right thing to do!

Should not creates Heroes too soon, differentiation is prudent way. Follow the process or rule. How do I grow faster... Capital focus, rotation focus. Local managements, giving freedom to operate units. Drive-Influence-judgement. GD facilitating problem solving, Character and Caliber, Integrity, admitting vulnerabilities.
