Oh no he definitely dies at the end. "Broken is the sphere of the body as the spirit will ascend" This is the point of his death "Once you carried me from the night into the sun, and now I follow your steps into the unseen land." This is him joining her in the afterlife. "Blinding the eternal glow after a long path in the dark" He spent so much time after her death living in darkness that the 'light' both literal and figurative is too much for him to bear. "Wide awake amidst the dream I stand by your side" He can't believe that he is with her again to the point that he thinks he's dreaming, but is also aware of the reality of it all. This and Ghost Love Score by Nightwish are tied for me with best song ever written and I will fight anyone over it

I enjoyed your reaction to this masterpiece of a song that expresses the pain and grief of losing a loved one and the hope of being reunited in the afterlife. The lyrics reference the end of the day, the approaching night, and the desire for rest and sleep after suffering the pain of losing someone close.
