For those that want deeper context for each weld aside from cosmetic appearances: #1 Weld - Underfill, concave weld - unfinished. Granted it's only a railing, but railings matter. In this case it's structurally sound. #2 Weld - As said in the video, inconsistent. Which isn't a crime. Other than that there is a slight underfill, and cold spots, but is structurally sound. #3 Weld - Only issue with this I don't see the undercut he's talking about, but it looks like a cold weld with a cold tag, looks like welder was welding too fast and NOT hot enough. #4 Weld - Hot crater is a HUGE issue, this is a result of not terminating your weld with a trail weld (letting off the heat and gas slowly). Craters lead to cracks, especially in aluminum. #5 Weld - No problems with this one, slight cold tag but not an issue. #6 Weld - The weld itself is not that bad, it looks like a penetration pass, but it is extremely underfilled. Slap a cover pass on that and it's a go. #7 Weld - Again, railings matter. Railings saves lives. This weld is completely cold. The reason it looks like that is because A: The welder didn't have enough amperage to heat up the base metal, or B: The operator was too impatient to let the base metal heat up before throwing down the beads. This is the equivalent of super gluing these together, hardly any fusion in this weld. #8 Weld - I'm not a stick welder but I'm assuming he's talking about cosmetics, to me it looks structurally sound. No major discontinuities in this one. #9 Weld - Gorgeous. Structurally sound human height gauge.

Keep in mind, the best welds on the park will be on the coasters themselves, not so much the stations built around them. Older rides don't have the same standards now, but since the mid-90s, it has been standard to ultrasound and x-ray all track welds, along with most support welds where the structure is likely to be under a high load. Visited a track factory in the Netherlands a number of years ago, and they actually said the reason is longevity, rather than just safety. Each track piece is pretty unique, so it's cheaper to invest in better manufacturing from the start than need to come back 25 years later to replace the worn/old segments.

Thing is about the CWI, that's is the highest level you can achieve as a Welder. To put it in perspective a little bit, there have only been 90,000 of us since 1975. 9 out of 10 people to 10 out of 10 people fail the test for it. It is insanely hard plus you need to have been welding for 6 years before you even qualify to take the class and test.
