Cleaned the gutters of a divorced woman and her daughter, they said, "I think there's an old chainsaw in the back of the shed" a promac 610, never cleaned, sat literally for 15 years, started and ran solid by adding gas/oil mix. I am amazed

That's ashame!! 99% of the time I get a 2 stroke to fix it's because it was run without oil!! Great video!!☺

Good Video Tom....People who don't fix these things just don't realize the importance of that Mixture Being Right. and the time it takes to take them apart & fix them. That saw is pretty common and you may get another to fix in the future, so it's a good parts candidate. This is a Classic case of " an Ounce of Prevention is worth a Pound of Cure."

Hi Tom! Missed this one until now! Good video! That Promac is done in yeah, would say by too lean setting on the H-needle, chief cause of dead saws. If you are going into chainsaws be sure to check out Chainsaw collectors forum and Chainsaw collectors corner, former where all the saw nerds gather, everything that is known of old saws is there, in the latter you can find data on most saws and other stuff. Just google on "Chainsaw Collectors", you find both.

@carnivore10 That's very wise. Leaning a saw too much is death. There is a lot of good reading about tuning a saw on Chainsaw Collectors Forum, right place to be. You'll find me there as Totte.

if its burn on the intake side also then it was probley ran with out oil in the gas or to lean of a mix. i recomend to pre thin the mix oil with some gas in a clean container first then put it in the can any oil un mixed will be on the bottom of the container and you can see it where you cant on the bottom of the gas can. the 610 also would get air leaks from the manifold inder the carb getting loose. those were a great saw and fairly easy to work on.

I'd check the recoil like the one guy said and then.... open it up, hone that cylinder, get some cross hatch, clean up that piston, new rings if needed, clean it up, reassemble it and get that saw cutting again, its worth it, let's do it.. I'm in.. 32:1 2 stroke oil good gas, sharpen chain, greese sprocket, let's roll , some logs.. Ah ha..

but it can also be the ....oiler,when the bar oil gets to the crankcase that stucks the muffler screen ant that kills the piston eventully-thats what i read about mac's oilers

i've just been given one of these chainsaws but i have no idea what the best mixture is for it could you give me an idea, no handbook and the person who donated it said he hated it and bought a husky instead. I am about to pull it to bits to see if it works okay and give it a service so this video was good to see how to pull it apart. Thanks

On that 610 I have the same saw with a busted outer case (from a tree falling on it) any chance you'd be willing to part with it?

I can tell you exactly what was wrong with that saw, I have had two chainsaws just like that and they both have done what yours did, what happens is the pull rope gets wrapped around the pull starter mechanism, so all you needed to do was take the pull starter cover off and untangle it.
