I want know who were Penny's parents and what ever happened to them. Was one of them a sibling of Gadget and did they all worked together before his accident? I think the main plot of the series or at least the first season should be about Gadget trying find Penny's parents so that he can reunite them and become a family again. What if they were captured and brainwashed by Dr. Claw and he makes them committing crimes and Gadget tries to make them regain their senses?

I was all about Inspector Gadget, as a kid... Right next to MOTU, Super Friends, Thundercats and TransFormers, that was my jam. I remember having one of the early ‘dolls’, as it was close to being a foot tall, and delicately setting about opening it up - with a hammer - because I was so curious what the inside looked like. I would go on to regret that, of course. I still have the one BK figure though, of him in his traditional grey coat. When I eventually made the connection between Gadget and Get Smart, watching reruns of the latter on Nick at Nite, I was blown away!

I too had the tall Gadget doll, I believe it was made by Galoob. Mine also broke very quickly (there were no instruction on how to make his neck extend :(

Watch castle of cagliostro on netflix, it's the original series. Inspector gadget was a spinoff and the main character lupin is very similar

I remember watching several episodes of inspector gadget as a kid. And too this day the theme song still goes through my head and its pretty random. The creators def made it catchy kudos to them lol.

I think a new live action Inspector Gadget movie would be cool but not like the other two made but this time, i like the idea of Gadget as a secret spy, possibly a damn good agent with skills who is terribly injured in line of duty then retrofitted with the cyborg elements but they never work the way he wants and messes up and wiping his mind is good idea also. He could have mustache at beginning but then taken away too. Penny, his supposed neice but unsure with her AI book and Brain. I want to see Dr Claw, unseen just hand with cat and the way it should be. A darker film, serious but still some humor like Mission Impossible movies.

Agreed, the 1999 movie should be put in the dust bin like the early Hulk and Fantastic 4 movies. The biggest issue with live action is how they will have to CGI Brain into it, which is a tall order for how much he does. They should leave the plot as ambiguous as the TV show did, not make it an origins story. Not showing Dr. Claw's face is another major factor they need to include, adding to the mystery and ominous villain like nature. Also, Penny should have a more proactive and intelligent role as she is a central character (She isn't even in the trailer). Making her look similar to the TV show too, being about 10 years old (not 14) and blond (not brunette), which they completely missed the mark on in 1999.

I wish that they would stop making sequels to the 1982 or 1983 series and reboot it. I mean, a new universe of "Inspector Gadget". It would also be fun if Jonathan "John" Brown, be shown tripping on a banana peel in the first episode. Also, this Inspector Gadget would be much more competent, but still have a sense of humor. Inspector Gadget (former good cop & hapless bungler John Brown cyberized) is basically Maxwell Smart (complete with the shoe phone, Don Adams as the original performer/voice actor, hyper-intelligent niece Penny as Gadget's Agent 9 equivalent [in "Get Smart", Maxwell Smart & Agent 9 are partners and a eventual married couple], and the evil organization that Maxwell Smart battles echoes M.A.D spearheaded by Sanford Scolex, otherwise known as Dr. Claw) mixed with MacGuyver & Robocop.

The card isnt true. Gadget isn't an alias. Gadget's ancestors were all named Gadget. The action figure wasnt Claw because it didnt match the arms on the show. There are other things here and there.

The biggest mystery in this show is who is penny? Where are her parents, and why is gadget her guardian? I think that the next movie could have answers for those questions.

Penny is the unreliable narrator of the show. Everything we see from the moment her uncle goes on a mission is in her imagination. Her parents were probably police officers who died while on a mission and she now fears she would lose her uncle too. You can tell she is imagining herself going on missions by the fact that she quickly befriends every kid she runs into and they team up against Claw, but while not a mission she is never seen playing or talking to other kids. So how can such an unsociable child get those kids to fight terrorists with her? The answer is: she can't, she just imagines it out of her desire to have friends, which she can not have due to her being too shy as a result of the trauma she suffered because of the loss of her parents.
