When I was caring for my mum in the 1990's, we'd bond over Wexford and Morse. Brilliant shows. So intelligent and such beautiful English. No grossness. Just plain decent entertainment. Oh how the world has gone downhill since. Lovely memories. Thank you.

I've watched all of Midsomer Murders twice and searched for more mysteries from wonderful English producers. I found these. This is only my second viewing. I find one must listen carefully as they tend to be most complex and too, I'm learning characters and who's who! Loving them already. I've also noticed actors/actresses in these that I've seen in Midsomer at an older age. Quite intriguing! Thank you for offering these treasured mysteries to all us true mystery lovers!

Don't forget Frost! Also, much like the Pink Panther movies (which wouldn't have been anywhere nearly as good without Herbert Loms Dreyfus and his "Dreyfus eye-twitch" etc.), we gotta love 'Horn-rimmed Harry". And yes, that's a question we did ask of occasion years ago - "Frost or Morse?". Still no definitive answer....

I loved her plot so much & rooted for her! Her face lit up when good ol’ Sarge Ted gave her that call to follow up on. It really spoke to how so many talented people just need someone to give them a chance to do their best work. Good glimpse into the attitudes of the field at the time towards women.
@djdissi2 жыл бұрын
Yes, found that a bit bizarre! As well as Mike's old fashioned morals - nothing new there lol - which seems a bit too far fetched and unconvincing in general in my POV in this show - even though that's supposed to be him, i know. They even have him state in an earlier Ep how much he hated the 60s and 70s, while leaving asking questions about what his childhood was like (one of the many things i like about this show) that left him to become so out of place and time. But still, no matter how straight and laughingly outdated his character is meant to be, it would make no sense in RL that people around him wouldn't be insulted beyond belief, that it wouldn't have affected his reputation at work, his kids, or end up with an educated, self-sufficient, "independant" person like Jenny, due to his offensive, sexist and classist views by this era. This was 1992, not '62 not even 1972... big, big difference. Maybe idk about fictitious Kingsmarkham, maybe it's supposed to be like that. Had i first watched it back then, when it was first aired, of course it would've been more clear. Maybe that was part of the story, one of the characteristics of the town. Or maybe some really small remote villages throughout the UK were like that in that time? But in my own life, i had not seen that level oppressive sexism in a police force, or the society in general that i lived in for that matter, at all by then! 80s and 90s?! C'mon! I was there! And I'm a woman - and so was my mum 😅... It was pretty much the same as it is now (excluding some places that are still held back for, say, religious reasons, or others, like The States right now, but getting off the point, sorry). And speaking of serving tea, why is Dora always serving Reg hand and foot all the time?😅 And never for herself? Everytime! Lolz Never mind a female police officer, never being out on a case ever unless it was give out hugs and tea lol. Don't get me wrong, of course i know there was sexism everywhere, largely from a legal and financial one. But that stuff that pops up in the show from time to time, is just too unrealistic imo, and might've been too unrelatable for many demographics. Because for one, pretty much every character in the show is mostly totally okay with it. Hell no. Not by that point. So there's that. Really, I am enjoying this series SO much, it's quality, i love it, but hope some younger ppl watching this kind of entertainment (under the age of, idk, 45) doesn't expect this represents the 80s and 90s at all... especially 1992 😊
