Inspiration for fly fishing - Autumn fishing for sea trout in Ryfylke - October 2024

I have called this film "Inspiration for fly fishing" because I hope that this film can inspire others who do not fly fish to try this. This was just an absolutely fantastic autumn day to be a fly fisherman. Completely windless, occasionally a bit of sun, decent temperature and plenty of fish willing to bite. I had a great time all day. And that is what I want and try to convey in my films. I'm simply trying to share the immense joy I have in fly fishing. I was obviously in the chatty corner this day.. I babble in unison throughout the film.. but that's because I'm talking about the joy of doing fly fishing, something I'm really passionate about. It wasn't planned, it just happened that way... Do you feel numbers of sea trout are increasing or same over the last 10 years?

In my local area (Rogaland/Stavanger) where I normally fish from my boat the numbers are going down. We have a lot of fish farms for salmon in our fjords. Because of the fish farms we have a lot of salmon lice. The lice will hurt and kill some young sea trouts and salmons, and they will affect growth of the sea trout. The fish farms uses a lot of chemicals to fight the lice. These chemicals kill all shellfish in our fjords. Shellfish are one of the main food for sea trout. So there is much less food available in the fjords these days. The last two years I have struggled to catch bigger fish, especially fish between 0,5-1 kg. I used to catch a lot of fish that size just a few years back. I should have started creating movies earlier.. Up in the northern parts of Norway I believe the sea trout is more the same during the last ten years, but there are more and more fish farms coming even in the north.

Yes, it is not good.. 2024 was the worst salmon year in many years.. Many rivers closed already in June due to lack of fish..
