Great information......I am pleased with my Promaster Wayfarer installation. Will be connecting to the Fan group....It was my pleasure to meet Ian over New Year 2019, and even met his mom who was visiting for the holidays. Plus the Perkins Motors dudes were all so helpful. The return trip from Colorado to south Alabama in the Silver Bird was an adventure all by itself....especially getting through Amarillo TX!....Here I am now in Alabama, a looooonnng way from Colorado Springs......making plans to acquire a camp site in the hills of north Alabama so I can pursue genealogy and explore the area too...very few places to stay in the area, considering the GPS always says, “entering undigitized roads” , you gotta know where you are going!.... This van allows me to drive around, meet people, see places, and write about the old days there. WHEN I get the site I want, it would be my pleasure to add it as a way-farer station for those passing through.........what a great idea!

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I would love to learn about the timeline for the roof rack/ladder (fan?) install on your van in relation to your van pick up and kit install. I am hoping next spring/summer I get to officially join the community. 🌼🌼🌼

Hey Lori, We can install the vent fan but can't help with the ladder/rack, which is called the "Alu-Rack by Prime Design."

Dreaming of one of your camper kits one day. Any plans for a minivan camper box? Lots of minivans owners here!

They do make a smaller van kit, which they show on their website. Looks like minivan sized.

is the promaster 1500 a good option to use as a conversion?
@tomfommber5 жыл бұрын
I drive a 1500 for work. It’s the 6 cyl. And it’s been a dog. Idk about converting but I can tell you that mechanically it is turning me against the Ram altogether as an option. The company I work for uses them currently exclusively in our fleet. They have been super problematic across the board. The motor is great. A genuine treasure. Having said that in the previous 100k miles of driving I’ve dropped a transmission, it literally dropped out of the bottom of the van and the mounts for the fan broke. We just sent another van with 60k miles on it into service at the dealership for brakes. 2k dollars to repair and replace. Not covered by warranty. A door hinge cost 250 dollars to replace. A van with similar miles to mine, in the 100k range, had extensive transmission and rear end problems. We calculated that in 100k miles use he’s spent about two months in a rental. Headlights are ridiculously unreliable. Housings have been replaced twice on my van, 120$ a piece. The bulbs fell out and melted the plastic housing. The weight we carry, which is substantial based on some variables, is no where near max capacity for these vehicles. Everyone absolutely glows over the 2500 and above. My experience with the 1500 has been disheartening at best. Doesn’t help that our local dealer is terrible to deal with. Absolutely terrible. They drive well and again that motor is great. But the failures of nearly every other system has turned me off Dodge and Ram. We, as a company, are moving to the Ford Transit starting next fiscal year.

Edward Woodward that’s terrible, and I heard the Ford is equally a nightmare.

This is eye opening. Super informative. I’m doing my research on Wayfarer. Can’t wait to get going. Thanks for sharing.
