My grandfather taught his 6 girls along with Archie s parents how to sing without musical instruments playing. I am kin to Troy Burns by my grandmother side of the family. When get thinking about my mom and five sister singing and neighbors sitting out in their yards listening to them singing the memories keeps me going. Thanks for the memories guys.

I attend a multi-racial CHurch with a southerner Pastor my kid grew up on the Inspirations. They sang one of their songs on Teen Night to every one's surprise.

This reminds me of watching the Gospel Jubilee years ago with my friend and his dog. The three of us would sing together. The dog would do the high parts, my friend the middle, and I would do the low. They're both gone now so I'll have to do all 3 parts, but I can't get as high as Archie !

The Inspirations have been a favorite if mine for many many years. I had a collection of their songs recorded on (the old fashioned) cassettes when we attended their singing conventions plus all of their albums. I still listen to them.

This is truly a godly group of men. Some of the stuff that I've heard about from some other so-called gospel groups, though, lead me to believe that they shouldn't be singing about Jesus...not if they're not going to live for him! There's so much stupidity and junk in a lot of "Southern Gospel" music nowadays that when I hear it, more often than not, I turn my radio off! Read an online story about how Southern Gospel came into existence, and read the story that I read. I even have a copy of the entire article within my possession. When you take into account that some of these groups are incorporating some very ungodly influences into their music, that makes their music to be as spiritually dangerous as if you were listening to rock, or even metal, music! No thanks-not for me!

Love this song! One thing though, is that, at that point, Brother Holcomb, the Bass singer, needed to work on those lower Bass notes just a little bit more. As time went on, however, he did just that, reaching very, very low Bass notes found way down in the double low C range, especially on the song Hide me, rock of ages. He retired from the Inspirations in 2013, and went into full-time ministry. The man is a legend among Bass singers. I like Ray Dean Reese of the Kingsmen Quartet, but he's nowhere as low, vocally, as Bro. Mike Holcomb is!

He was using fry here during the low part at the end, though, and I think he does the same on his lowest notes in more recent stuff as well. Here you can actually hear a bit of a register break around 3:05. That's not to be disrespectful or say that fry isn't a skill in itself, though, and I know I've heard him go to at least A1 without fry (which is several notes lower than most guys can reach).
