Awesome video, I struggled for many years to differentiate the box modeling from sculpting, and I knew they were different but I couldn't figure out the way to explain it. Now I'm so glad that the next generation of artists won't make the same mistakes I did, just because of videos like this. Keep up the great work...

The big difference is in two important points, 1. you have a pre-established design that you must respect or you are only making scales and muscular bodies like crazy and 2- what you will have to animate yourself or you will only do a pose to only rotate it 360. That some new artists are impressed with the zbrush does not mean that it does not require 3D modeling knowledge, if you think about getting a 3D modeler job it is only fine but if at some point you want to animate (not only for games) you will see that between making a retopology Complete to start with a basemesh made by you will be a better productive path, you do not need to be an artist to take advantage of the zbrush or a freak to make a good polygonal multi-purpose mesh base. In short, your perspective changes when you animate, you realize that the retopology process is almost like polygonal modeling, that not everything is freestyle, that it is not enough to stay in the pose or understand anatomy, what happens is that many new artists do not They get there or this other experienced staff who will suffer taking off those folded arms for rigging.

Great video. I have a work station, but man, I can easily bring it to its limits, I think rendering, 3d sculpting are among the most demanding things for your computer right now.
@sanfera56442 жыл бұрын
Modelling is more likely a mathematical calculation while sculpting is about imagination. You can use blueprints for modelling and measure stuff. Sculpting... due to its artistic nature, suffers from all the stuff other art styles suffer. "I can't exactly create the thing in my mind!" Also, just having a good computer is usually enough for modelling but sculpting can require stuff like stylus, touch screen or other devices depends on the user. You can model a house with your mouse and keyboard but good luck sculpting a human shape with a mouse. Really good video. Thanks for sharing.

Long story short: Sculping is unmatched if you already can do some good art in other mediums. Modeling is a good learning tool if you have no artistic ability but want to learn. Both should be used in conjunction on most projects imo anyway.
@KeelanJon Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say 'No artistic ability', I prefer 3D modeling for a variety of reasons, but still have the ability to sculpt, but for the styles I create modeling just fits the mould better. It just depends on the project.

Artistic ability is required for all aspects of CG creation, not more for sculpting than modeling. Your explanations here are very much that of a CG artist who does not know what modeling is, and stating that modeling deals with moving or creating one vertex or polygon at a time is just plain wrong. The example shown on the subject, the car mesh, is absolutely not representative of what a professional modeler will do. Please dig your subjects deeper, much deeper before using your platform to reach future artists that will be ill equipped to face real projects.

I’m curious: how would a professional modeler do a car mesh?
@mothdude42112 жыл бұрын
@@rubyy.7374 well it depends on what it is. If it's an existing car, you can go the cheap way and model from schematics and sorta just start with the frame. If it's not an existing design, you'd have to come up with concept art for it and then go from there.
@JohnnyThund3r4 ай бұрын
@@rubyy.7374 I'm not a professional, but I could think of a way that might be faster by blocking out the car first with a basic mesh that fits it's shape, then add a subdivision surface modifier to smooth it all out and move the edges/vertices around to get the general shape of that car, then separate the faces into multiple objects for things like the hood, windows, doors and such, using the knife tool to cut these things out where needed, maybe adding thing like the bumper and mirrors as a separate objects that I join using a boolean operation. Ironically, I might use a little sculpting to trim the fins and such after I add them, or maybe use a lattice modifier. There are at least 21 ways to skin a cat these days, sculpting is just one of them...😂

07:55 Dude, you sound like a clown lol. You can sculpt something in high quality and then remesh/retopo it down to be rig/game ready and you use the higher poly sculpt as a projection. So many games and movies actually do this now to save time so it's bonkers you would say something so bold yet so wrong. No one REQUIRES it but its all about a quick pipeline so someone that knows both how to sculpt AND model will be picked over just one every single time. It's like saying no one requires hand drawn animation anymore, which is true to a degree with vector animation, but someone that can do both will always be valued for saving time.
