Really appreciate your sharing your post surgery experiences . I am still in the pre- surgical discussions and evaluation process. Your insights help me tremendously I am recovering from 2 Strokes and several seizures ( controlled by medication )

I did not see your first video Seeing this one definitely makes me second guess doing this. I have Hemophilia and Heart Disease. Hence, blood thinners and clotting factor is a delicate balancing act. Now, knowing this is not a simple “procedure” is making me temper my initial enthusiasm. Thank you for doing the video.

I would say approach any surgery with caution and do your homework. This surgery has come a long way since it was first introduced. It use to involve three incisions and now it is only two. There are more doctors who can do the surgery too. The device was just updated again in January so that’s good too. I have learned you can’t ask enough questions and make sure you are clear on the entire process before doing it. This is still a product being sold and there is a certain amount of sales associated with it but at the end of the day, you are having your body cut into and altered. So, be informed and prepared as best you can. I am still glad I did it and optimistic about its potential to improve my life.

I am so interested in your recovery process. I had the device placed almost 12 weeks ago. It has not been activated yet as I am still having the exact nerve issues you described in your first update. My nerve issues have only improved slightly since the surgery. It is such a relief to hear someone else say they have had the pain in their ear and have difficulty eating, swallowing and talking for longer periods of time. I still have to eat slowly and cut everything up very small. I take ibuprofen or tylenol around the clock just to take the edge off. I still use either ice or a heating pad on the back of my head daily. I am scheduled to see the inspire rep and my pulmonology NP again tomorrow for activation. I am extremely hesitant to be activated as my initial pain was so debilitating and I am afraid that activation will put me back to that. At this point I really regret having this surgery. I would love to know if you have been activated and if that caused the recurrence of the more intense pain you initially had right after your surgery. Thank you for making this video. It helps me to hear someone else talk about their recovery and know I'm not alone.

@ Janet My Inspire was implanted 12/27. My chin incision healed quickly with very little post-op discomfort. My chest incision is still healing but is fully closed. My OSA is so severe, I requested my surgeon activate the device three weeks post-op instead of his standard 4 weeks. He agreed. My tongue is very responsive to electrical stimuli so the surgeon, and Inspire Reps started my implant at level 2. I can report no pain nor discomfort from the activation. I’m now at level three and enjoy undisturbed sleep. Please don’t be anxious. You are through the roughest part, the implantation. It WILL get better for you. I am already experiencing small improvements. Patience is the pathway. You’re gonna be OK!

Right after my surgery and for about a month it felt tight. The Dr. instructed me to do some movements to keep the incision area loose as it was healing and prevent scar tissue from forming tightly around the lead from the device. I did those exercises as prescribed and haven’t had any tightness since.

I would say to give it time. Healing is different for everyone and the alternative is going through having it removed. Keep in touch with your Dr. And the Inspire Rep. and tell them your symptoms and how recovery is going. Good luck to you.

I honestly can't remember what they were. I'll be sure and post a video of my new sleep study and the results. I know my dr. has all of that. I can tell you I have moderate sleep apnea and I would wake up frequently in the night and felt like I had been holding my breath all night some mornings. I used to get really bad headaches too. I sleep so much better now!

Why go through all that to continue using the Cpap?
@kathyschubert9995
@kathyschubert9995 5 ай бұрын
I know you weren’t asking me, but I think I understand your question, so I’d like to offer a possible reason. It sounded to me like she was using CPAP again while she was waiting to be activated and get up to speed with her Inspire. Using the CPAP again was probably an effort to cover all her bases, like using a heating pad AND some Tylenol to help with a sprained ankle.
