Not at first but I have been able to for several months. I heal slowly so it took me about a year to comfortably sleep on my right side. I could do it for brief periods with a pillow helping to prop me up.

You made the right choice to just do the Inspire. I had the Palate surgery (UPPP). It only helped me 30% and so I still have severe sleep apnea. That surgery was the worst thing I’ve ever been through. So incredibly painful. I just had my Inspire placed 2.5 weeks ago. Without that UPPP surgery, I wasn’t qualified for the Inspire, where as now I am. I’m so glad you were able to get it activated!!

This made me feel better. Just got the implant surgery today - first evening with this. What I’m feeling is a lot like your process. I was worrying about how bad I felt. Feels like I was hit by a truck almost ! Hahaha Now I know others have had this reaction also. I’m a lot less stressed about it. Also I will be sure to not rush it- my Dr made it seem like I’d be fine and ready for living within a couple days.

Right after my surgery and for about a month it felt tight. The Dr. instructed me to do some movements to keep the incision area loose as it was healing and prevent scar tissue from forming tightly around the lead from the device. I did those exercises as prescribed and haven’t had any tightness since.

I’m two weeks out, and boy oh boy, I didn’t anticipate needing such a recovery time. I’ve had a lot of ear pain and a dull ache in the back of my head-almost migraine type of pain for me. I don’t have any tongue paralysis or wound pain, although my wounds are not flat- almost like the implanted devices are a little large or haven’t settled in. I would think twice about this surgery if you can wear a CPAP. Be open to the idea of the CPAP; I think that’s important, as well as getting a good fitting mask. I used my CPAP for about 8 years successfully until I had a rhinoplasty to correct a deviated septum. Since the bones in my nose had to be broken, the CPAP mask is now just too painful over the bridge of my nose. I tried all kinds of padding but nothing worked. What you decide upon is a personal preference so only you can decide if an Inspire might be right for you. Since my sleep apnea is currently untreated, I’m looking forward to the activation of the Inspire device to get good quality sleep.

The really uncomfortable part resolves itself in the first couple of weeks. For me, the ear pain and the headaches have subsided with activation. I’m not sure why but it improved. I’m so happy I did this now. It has been worth the trials to get to this place now 18 months out.

a.co/d/eTWR8Eg This is a link to the kind I used. I put my flat pillows on it too and kind of surrounded myself a bit for support. As for foods I ate, warm things tasted the best to me-soups and soft foods. Cold was ok but warmth just felt better because swallowing was difficult initially. Chewing was hard for a long time. I had to really take my time eating. I couldn’t use a straw either because sucking used muscles that were sore from surgery. I would warm up applesauce and that tasted good the week after surgery. The most important thing is to stay hydrated-herbal teas were nice for that, stay current on the pain medication, and do the exercises they tell you to do to. Things improve quite a bit after the first two weeks if you are a slow healer like me.

You are very informative. I had my inspire procedure on 8/1/22. My recovery was very good. I took 6 weeks to recover but I think I was ready after a month. They activated the devise after a month. You are so correct that there are plenty of videos of doctors and not enough from patients as to what they experienced. After my surgery it was more than I expected. The incision was bigger than what they said it would be. Doctors kept saying it will be about an inch big. Noooooo it wasn’t or isn’t. It’s bigger. The swelling on your neck is much more than other parts of body. No one ever said that. I also say it was so well worth it and I would do it again if I had to. I recommend it so much to all that are candidates.

I have the device, not activated yet. My recovery path has been long and difficult. Mammogram was a concern I had about having the device inserted. I was told by Inspire customer service rep that it would be no problem. I just had a mammogram. Trying to move the device out of the way was extremely painful. Extra views were required. My results report states that there is part of the tissue that is not able to be viewed because of the device. This is just my experience. I have felt that my device was placed fairly low on my chest so maybe that's why.
