Good morning from down here in Nz. I've been subscribed to a few other people on canal boats, but they seem to have disappeared.?? I went through a similar experience as you, but my loss was caused through divorce. However I found the solution was, buying a yacht, and living in the Marlborough Sounds, top of the South Island, and spending 9-10 years aboard, in the company of my Fox Terrier. The Sounds represents 16% of Nz coastline, so had a big area to explore. I became part of the "Liveaboard" fraternity and we'd return to Picton every so often to compare notes, on what we had been doing. During the summer, we'd experience nature big time, by skinny dipping at night in the middle of the phosphorescence. Absolute magic, occasionally enhanced by a visit from Woody, our resident dolphin. Anyway, I'm loving your channel, and if you're happy for me to stay, this late 70 yr old teenager, will stay, and share life's journey with you. Thank you for sharing. Thanks 🙏It's not everyone's cup of tea living on water. But, if you're a fan of camping and the great outdoors, even in winter and happy to live with less worldly goods, then it may be for you. Make sure you do your research online before you dive into buying a boat. I went for a 57ft narrowboat. Good luck, and blow your horn and a wave when you drift past me! 🙏 Dave

Dave if only there was more people like you in the canal you handled that boat kissing perfectly that's the same way I deal with boat kissing if it's a genuine accident and theirs no damage then get on with life , I only tell the other boaters off if the accident was due to them speeding or bad boat behaviour etc otherwise lifes to short and it's not worth getting angry over

I've not noticed of the canal smelling bad. But the fields smell, muck spreading! Yes, services here and there with a shower, but not many in the country for 2k canal network, and in very poor condition! I have my own bath and shower onboard my boat.

Hello Dave, Lovely to chat your latest vlog. A different vlog, I could sense your uneasiness. I hope you have found calm again? Note, as a heavy vehicle mechanic, your diesel filter is ever bit as important as your oil filter, so change both every year at least. You also need to drain a diesel filter every couple of months, of water, there should be a small drain plug on the bottom, this will protect you and your engine. Take care xx

Sorry if somoyhas asked this but how far do you have to move every 14days. I want to get a boat but worried about getting to work

You need to show that you move your boat about 15 to 20 miles per year and every two weeks show that you travel over a kilometer or two. Your not allowed to shuttle backwards and forwards in a local area, like move off a mooring then two weeks later go back to it. You can return but need to at least travel for say another six weeks or moor, then head back towards same location. The canal river trust rules are all vague. But as long as you show that you do move, stick to the rules then you should be OK. If you work, then travel distances will vary for you. Many choose to work online from their boats. I keep a record of my movements. They do monitor boat movement, but maybe be asked by crt to prove you do. If not they will reduce your licence or not issue you a new licence at all.

It's a system to make sure everyone can enjoy a stay at each mooring. If boaters stayed in one place too long, it's very unfair that others can't enjoy a little time there. Plus if folk did that, you could be cruising for hours to find somewhere. Basically the canals would be clogged up!
