What stops the porcelain to tile contact, which would either crack/chip tiles or porcelain pan, as well as making that awfull grinding noise ? What secures the pan to the floor solidly now ? Looks like the old pan used mortar to secure it to the floor before by the looks of that bare patch of tiles.
@InspireDIY4 ай бұрын
Hey Peteo, great questions 👌 Leigh ‘the plumber’ reckons that once the bowl is sitting on Clean and Flat tiles (no chipping) and a bead of silicone is applied the toilet is secured to the floor so it won’t move, if it ain’t moving - no grinding noise. He’s had success with this technique for years. Admittedly the last one I installed I actually put a bead under the pan as well to adhere to the tiles and it ain’t moving😉 Best of luck 👍Kent

so the only thing holding to toilet to the ground was a bead of silicone ? what happen if your doing a major big poo and you move around a bit. wont the toilet move ?
@InspireDIY Жыл бұрын
Hey mechanical, I wondered the same thing and I guess that’s why they have the option of support brackets each side (if you were planning to wriggle around whilst pooping) 3 toilets installed the same way haven’t budged in 7yrs using this silicone bead technique.. you could always wedge the bowl up to get some silicone underneath if needed🤷♂️ not a silly idea mate. Cheers, Kent
@teavstravel Жыл бұрын
I have done as he suggested in the response here and added a bead of silicon before setting the pan down. In my case the floor had a bit of fall so we needed to pack it up slightly to get it level anyhow, so a good sized bead helped with that too. Once that initial "gluing" bead was set we lay a nicer clean bead in a colour to match the grout of the floor. Have done a few like this in two houses, all are at least 10 years in and one closer to 15 years. No issues at all.
