A friend of mine built all his certs and time at a part 61 school, got his 1500 hours mostly teaching, just a month before he turned 21. Hired at Sky West the month after he turned 21. He will be 23 this December and will probably make Captain then as well. Good instructor as well, I think 9/10 ppl students passed their check rides too.

It’s amazing how timing can make or break a career as an airline pilot. Good for him, in contrast there are so many people who had to spend decades at a regional airline making poverty wages and build thousands of jet time hours just to get an interview to fly an Airbus. Mind blowing.

First :) from someone that wanted to be a pilot when I was 17, and was accepted at Purdue Pro Pilot school 50 yrs ago. Decided to be an engineer instead due to influx of pilots from Viet Nam. I did get my private at 17, but life got in the way to go further.

any take in the ''el mayo'' flight from mexico to el paso on a king air? apparently no one in mexico knew from where and when the airplane left...and even they got a guy from arizona? confuse with the pilot.

I don't know how old this interview was but I think he is being underpaid. CRJ regional pilots are starting out higher than $60/hr. If he flew the max of 1000 hours that would only be $60k/year.

Airline pilots are not necessarily paid like flight attendants, such as when the door closes. There are lots of other times they are paid when they are not flying, such as when they are on reserve for example

Starting pay is now 90 or 100 an hr now

This guy flys for Allegiant …their contract is 8/9 years old . They make $56/hour first year first officer flying Airbus . They’re having a very hard time negotiating an industry standard contract. ( ask me how I know) . The majors are paying roughly $116.85 first year first officer …their contract is 1 year old and still being implemented in phases. Allegiant is good to get that initial 121 experience and potentially avoid the regionals . The experience you get is great. He keeps his log book and resume updated he won’t be there long than a year and a half .

Its not so hard to control it, but navigation and communication make it more challenging. It just takes practice and repetition...

It takes 1500 hours of flight time and a pulse right now. Not that hard. It won't stay this way. Timing is everything.

I know 4 CFIIS with over 1400 with no jobs. I am not sure they are hiring anyone with a pulse right now....

@@BryanWillemsen Yeah, everyone feels like they are entitled to fly jets right at 1500. If Boeing could deliver the jets it promised, things would be going a lot faster. I know guys who had to flight instruct for 7 years and got stuck at the regionals for 15. Hard to cry over a slight "blip" in the hiring frenzy.
