"Inspiring environment makes you run faster." This is a great slogan for Come to Sweden.

Brilliant! I use the principle every week, it works!

Interesting. I do something of the opposite of what was recommended. Rather than looking to distract myself, I attend to how my body is feeling. I dont know if this kind of 'mindful' orientation makes me a faster runner, but I would have thought it would be possible to find a way of orientating to your bodily discomforts and labours in a way that enables you to find ease with effort.

I hate to listen to my own panting and it definitely feels like it detracts from my performance. Music makes it much more enjoyable and fun.

In the last kms of hard runs I'm starting to praise myself out loud. And it helps me a lot to finish last 3-5 kms with right effort. Though from the outside it probably looks like I'm crazy person 😂

I think a reason that treadmill running can be harder than outside running, could also have to do with the difference in heat dispersion, as when you run on a treadmill, the air around is not moved very much, where as outside you will constantly move in to new air, increasing the heat dispersion to the air. Also the indoor temperature could just be plain higher, making the heat dispersion even worse.

Yep, all that tracks with my experience. In fact when I know I need to do a slower session (ie the day before my long run or a harder session) I turn OFF my music to slow myself down and keep my run 'easy'. For faster sessions I have a specific playlist of faster paced 'dig-deep' songs which I listen to. Most of my 'normal' runs are actually a mix of music and an app called 'Zombies Run' which is effectively an audio book series which plays the next part after you have run a certain distance.

Distraction ? When I am running distracted( thoughts) , my running techniques falls apart , I don’t synchronize my movements well, putting pressure on some muscles more than others , not using all of my muscles efficiently! I love running in nature, no music or other distractions!

Then you have loads of fun training and optimisation learning to do. I love to be a newbie and have oceans of knowledge and learning to do. (To be a experienced runner must be boring and not to aspire for)

@@Harrythehun running is like playing piano, need lots of concentration, can you play piano and be distracted! 😂🏃🏼♂️🏃🏼♂️🏃🏼♂️☀️☀️☀️

@@HS99876 I really don't see it like that. I see running as habitual "relaxation" activity. The improvements and ability to relax when performing comes from training and improving your technique. When the technique is spot on you really don't overthink the running part, just relax and go with the trained flow.

Any ideas for swimming "distracrion", anyone? I really need to focus ob something else than my own negative thoughts about not making the longer distances. Don't like the idea of music as I rather not add yet another gadget, which also is distracting. Thanks!!

Sing Gregorian chants as you exhale through the water. Or some of your favorites. That's what I do.

Strange I'm definitely faster on treadmill, swimming pool and zwift compared to the real world.
