As was Bernie Madoff, who became friends with Yonatan and participated in Jewish services there at Butner with Yonatan. Amongst prisons in the U.S., Butner is the crown jewel and attorneys representing high profile white collar criminals work to get their clients to serve their time there.

As of June 8, 1976, Jewish inmates in Federal Prisons throughout the U.S. are entitled to receive full Kosher meals, including meat, poultry and fish, according to Sydney Kwestel, President of the National Jewish Commission on Law and Public Affairs (COLPA), which helped negotiate the kosher food arrangement with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
