Mountain biking is a particularly challenging edge case when it comes to a camera's performance, to the point where I believe that more "general" comparison content is not always relevant to our niche's needs. Hopefully all of this carefully standardized, back-and-forth style footage will help show you exactly where these two cameras excel on the trails! 🙂 If you'd like to learn more about the Ace Pro 2, using my affiliate link is an easy way to help support my channel: www.insta360.com/sal/ace-pro-2?INRZE0K

The GoPro has so much more blur at the screen edges when you're riding faster. The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 looks like you can still see the detail as it whizzes past, in comparison. The difference between these two is pretty crazy.

I don't mean I'm a gopro fun, I like that the competitors are pushing the standards, but in this comparison I liked gopro over ace pro, even in the low light. At 9:19 the image jitters on each bump, then gopro's image is dark, but it doesn't have that jitter. I didn't like the audio comparison, as it's a known fact that gopro's wind reduction makes voice muffled, though I don't argue that insta 360 is better in that regard (just not that big of a difference when using dead cat and no auto wind reduction). Also, gopro's field of view is upgradable with ultra wide lens, which is a killer feature for me. DJI got boost lens too, which is cool, and making ace pro less appealing for now

There's no denying the Max Lens Mod's convenience, but it does come at the expense of absolute image quality by putting more glass in the way of the sensor, which is a con to me as a primarily long-form creator. I'd also argue that not having to use a dead cat is a substantial quality of life improvement, as it will never get wet, dirty, or peek into the shot. 🙂

One criticism: It’s nice of you to list the settings and setting differences, but in that case a table containing similarities + the goal (lowest stabilisation for instance) would IMO be easier to follow. Otherwise, great video as always (at least as far as I watched) :D.

RIP your neck! That's so much weight pulling the neck and helmet down haha thanks for taking one for the team! I do think the DJI OA3 still beats both of these though... I also like the idea of putting a table up for settings. People can pause and adjust their own cameras easier that way.

Great comparison Dale! My quick observations, the GoPro seems to push 'red' a bit and a tad darker overall, but certainly watchable. The Insta360 has more accurate colors, a tad sharper and definitely better wind reduction in my opinion.
@DaleStone31 минут бұрын
I agree with your assessment! Both are definitely useable, it's the edge cases that set them apart.

We have the Insta360, a GoPro (albeit slightly older model) and a DJI at home. All of them work well. Though, the DJI has far superior battery life. The GoPro's battery life (especially in colder weather) is sub-optimal. The Insta360, in our opinion, outperforms the other two. This it does, in both video and audio. Though, at a significant weight penalty. With the chest mount attachment, the differences are not as noticeable. However, when helmet mounted (especially on the chin-bar), the Insta360 feels markedly heavier. The Insta360, a better camera, but you'll need the neck muscles of an F1 driver, to use it comfortably.

Dale, thanks. Is there something about the Insta that makes it easy to set it up badly and get relatively poor results? Here’s why I ask. The insta is popular amongst MTB pro vloggers, isn’t it just now? And I can see why from this fantastic vid. I’d buy the Insta. However, some vloggers get quite poor results with it compared to GoPro - even some with huge followings (I assume this means they have a forensic understanding of the camera, or should have….. so, perhaps they just don’t know?). Thanks for your thoughts ☺️

Perhaps they're shooting with the X4 instead of this Ace Pro 2? Comparing a 360 camera to a single lens one would definitely explain what you are describing. I haven't found any camera particularly hard to setup. 🙂

Something seems off. I biked literally 30 mins before dark using this GoPro and it looked considerably more bright than your clip. I also have a lot better audio quality on the GoPro than this video shows, maybe it’s a positioning thing. Both are great cameras, but hard not to be biased when one is sponsoring.
@quithollerin727618 сағат бұрын
I wouldn't say that there's a lot of dark to mountain biking. Rider's preference. And dude, every time, and I mean every time. You or Dave... the GoPro imagine is imediately warmer and more pleasing to my eye than either the DJI or Insta. Perhaps for the very reason that the image isn't as sharp. Some people prefer dropping a needle over laser disc, too. Food for thought. And though it's clear that the 360 produces a brighter image in those low light conditions, neither are usable in my opinion. If your ride runs into sunset, you probably already got your footage. It's beer time. The audio is curious to me. I'm in the market. Still getting by on my 7... my head is the gimbal. Embarrassing, I know. But my audio isn't muddy. What gives? And you mentioned user experience. I like the Quick app. I can kick a quick minute long vid out onto Instagram over my morning coffee. It's pleasant. And all my raw footage is stored. I'm not a content creator. I have no logos. I have no interest in becoming a personality. No one sponsors me. No one would. Ce sera... And I have no intention on spending a silly amount of money on sophisticated editing software to put on a sophisticated laptop. I'm more inclined to have Imby build me some new and sophisticated wheels. If I were to pull the pin on the 360, will I enjoy my morning coffee as much as I do now? That is the question. And it doesn't get much simpler than that. I like intuition. I like parsimony. This is my feeling on it. Sometimes too much detail is distracting. Too many features. Distracting. No one's eyes and ears are that good. You can't find the forest for the trees is a cliché for a reason.

Only thing I hope for in the next version is wider FOV, 170 would be dialed. And 10bit color
@whekin17 сағат бұрын
@@fullpullmtb I guess that's impossible unless the lens sticks out way it does on 360 cameras. But this fox fov is possible on GoPro with Max lens, and recently DJI created boost lens with 182 fov
@fullpullmtb16 сағат бұрын
@ the lens sticking out does not bother me. I use the x3 in single lens at 2.7k and it’s what I like most besides lower resolution. I have not seen that from dji, I prefer their color reproduction the most. Going to look for this now, surprised I haven’t heard of that

The hero 13 is too wide for my liking, It just makes the pov really weird especially when your turning.
@DaleStone31 минут бұрын
I don't think it's too wide personally, just that it's too distorted near the edges when at a similar FOV to Insta.
