Please can you share your thoughts about the freeframe mode? Now in my opinión is useless, no reframe, no tilt/roll, no keyframes, and if you want horizont lock you have to crop a lot with the view 360 Horizon lock. All due to the bigger lens desing. By the way really improvement in image quality over go3.

I agree; Freeframe seems to have become pointless and the Easy Switch feature doesn't make the camera as versatile to mount as previous Go cameras.

​@@intrepidchimpit's all because the new lens size, that allows the image to cover the whole sensor, so now there is no way to reframe without croping a lot, check the view mode 360 Horizon level under freeframe mode , but still no rotate neither adding keyframes. Those are the reason while i returned It, besides of that the image quality is much better

​@@PocketCamsthis major crop could be reduced using even 1440p50 like in the go3, I don't mind, but having out of frame and twisted/bent videos is really bad... 9:16 is useless without the pod to keep checking if the things are in frame... The line "film and key-reframe later" is really gone? 😢

That digital zoom needs careful testing against cropping in editing - for instance as I recall it the DJI Pocket 2 had such a feature and it did clever stuff with the sensor such that it was actually better than cropping. "Kids mode" also sounds handy for elderly users like me....

Good point Peter - I'll get round to that - I think it will be image quality that may go down a bit, but it may well be workable with - will test and vlog with it and see how it is received. Next trip is on July 3rd down to Christchurch for the day, so will post a vlog shortly after that. Kids mode will be useful for all kinds of use cases I think, as well as the one you mention. I think I'll be using it in certain situations too. Cheers!

@@PocketCams I look forward to your testing. With the P2 they did it by using unused pixels from the quad beyer sensor. The P3 doesn't have that kind of sensor so its zoom is a simple crop. It will be interesting to see how the Go 3s performs in this scenario.

Nice video thanks. I just bought one for running using it standalone using the hat clip/hand held. Should I switch it on/off each time I take a clip or leave it switched on for duration of run (say 2hrs)? Also, is there a way I can force it to record landscape for all clips? Sometimes, when holding the camera when running fast, it is tough to get the orientation right every time. In a race, when your attention is elsewhere it is tough to keep track on whether the camera is on or off or recording or not. Any tips on this use case would be great full received...

When you make your Quick Reader video can you let us know if it imports the clip and sorts them according to when they were recorded or is it sorted according to when they are imported? What i mean by this is, i edit my Travel/Vacation videos chronologically. I import my Go3 videos, X4 and Ace Pro videos to my ipad at the end of the day. Later i export them in their recorded order to my camera roll. If i skip entering my Go3 or Go3s videos until days later, will those videos stored on the Quick Reader's SD card put the videos on my Insta360 album by the day they were shot or will they go at the end and import as though they were recorded that day? If you have a Go3 and Go3s, i wonder if the footage between the two is timestamped and then transferred to an ipad or iphone in the order they were recorded, too.

I found the X3, X4, and Ace Pro to all have similar colors in their respective Standard, Vivid etc. profiles but my GO 3 always was different and seemed flatter, you had to select Vivid to get close to Standard on the Insta360 cameras... the GO 3S has resolved this and now has a pleasant and saturated Standard profile that combines well with footage from the X4 and Ace Pro shooting in Standard... good job Insta360!

Hi. Thank you for a series of very informative videos on this product. I'm quite the novice in this field and looking for a bit of guidance you can offer . I'm very tempted to get one of these to be used mainly as a bodycam while walking. I like the idea that it can be discreetly attached to the magnetic holder under clothing . Can you advise if the vertical bobbing movement when filming in this way is a bit too noticeable, over the steadiness obtained using one of the handheld devices (like the DJI pocket 2 some videos have comapred with) which compensate/absorb movements in this way? Also, I notice in the video you connected to a tablet (iPad I assume) to edit. Is this cabled directly from the camera? Can the footage be edited using the other device's software and so on before any uploading to youtube? I could see myself getting a Quick reader to transfer to an SD card and then to a PC or tablet (iPad permits this?). Sorry for all the questions. As I said I'm a beginner. Would you recommend a tech/device forum where I could post these and further questions? Thanks for any advice you can offer. Best regards, Mike

I have the Go 3 and welcomed the new software upgrades. The fixed capture length is great, but always defaults to 10 min when the camera is out of the pod and the pod is out of range or off. No matter what I do, can’t seem to fix this. I have the single press/double press settings set for 15 sec, but it still defaults to 10 min. Hmmm…maybe a factory reset will help

Hey, great video! For some reason, every time I import Go3 files to my computer, the videos which were filmed in free frame video, appear as fisheye lens videos. Do you happen to know how to change this by chance? Thanks

You have to process them via the app or desktop studio foray. Of you just want straight video in mp4 format, you need to record in video mode, not Freeframe. Hope that helps

Gave my 360go3s a first run yesterday. Im disappointed 😔 i had settings at 2.7k just to see what its like. Went to a museum which was fairly low lit to do a walkthrough. Battery barely lasted 20mins, the magnetic pendant is not great for anyone with ample chest areas, most of my views are of the middle up to ceiling rather than straight ahead. I shortened the neck piece, I lengthened it i even tried tilting it, nope. Maybe for me its going to be a clip to hat thing, but indoors i dont like wearing hats. Next the lighting is atrocious, everything was super dark, it was low lighting but the video appears dark. I put the camera back in the action pod once the battery level dropped to 17% but it just overheated and made no difference to battery life. I ended up back using my phone for video🧐🙄is there a better option for capturing walkthroughs? The tour lasted 1hr 30mins how could i condense this down to within the camera's limits? Lighting, any tips for indoors? Seems a shame as its a perfect size and im no professional, just want to document our trips away or stuff that interests me. I just don't want to be the person with multiple tech items hanging off me!

You can actually wear that hat thing on the pendant like that you can move the camera to a better angle without having to move the pendant up or down, leave it in a comfortable area in your chest and then use the other hat magnet attachment that worked good for me.

I don't think so without using free frame which will wind up with a crop. I believe the reason for this is that they were able to achieve the 4K using the same sensor and more processing by using slightly more of the total sensor by way of a better lens. In other words, you can either have landscape filming with a vertical camera with the go 3 at 2.7k or you can have the Go 3S at 4K but the camera has to be oriented the right way. I think when they took away this feature they made the mode shifting automatic, so at least there's that. 🫤

@@mice_cowski not according to everyone that I've heard talk about it. Everyone seems to concur that it is due to greater processing ability because of a faster chip and because of the new lens. Furthermore, this reality fully explains why you can't shoot vertical with a horizontal camera and horizontal with a vertical camera anymore if it is using the full sensor where it wasn't exactly using the full sensor before.

@@intrepidchimp I've seen one site say it's 1/2" sensor, Best Buy says 1/2.3" and others like B&H say the size is unspecified so now I'm rethinking my previous comment. Also, considering the reviews and Insta360 don't mention it but instead emphasize the lens, I would concur the lens plays a significant role in this. Having said all of that, the ability to mount the camera in any direction and still have a level horizon with unchanged image quality was a hallmark feature of the Go cameras and now that it doesn't, that's a dealbreaker.

@@betjoh Apparently you can use any action camera and GPS providing the GPS outputs either gpx files (most do) or fit files (like smart watches etc). There's video's on KZbin on how to sync the data on post and which software to use. Garmin Virb edit is one but it's no longer supported and some features no longer work as they should.

​​​@@PocketCamsI think what you are referring to is fixed length recording, which you did discuss in your video, but I think what he is discussing is interval recording which is described in all of the promotional videos as the camera will turn on periodically and record for a bit and then turn off again, thus picking up little random pieces of your day without you having to stop and start recording on the camera all the time. What exactly was your question about interval mode, Joel? 🤔

My humble request to Insta360. Let the Go series be that action camera “Action Camera” it originally was to take those impossible action shots carelessly with ease. Please don’t convert it into another Vlogging camera. With my go2 I can slap in on my sub250 drone, stick to my son’s RC car. Stick it to my car, go crazy without worrying much. It was simple. Just one click and it records. That’s all it needs to be. We don’t need that preview screen and crap complex GoPro competition stuff. Keep it simple as it was, one click and as tiny as your thumb, waterproof, high resolution and horizon lock (Must). Thanks. Looks like you need to a bit of reverse engineering and relearn from your own creation.

The Go concept itself was an invention. All they had to do was to stick to that concept and engineer its future within that weight, simplicity and form factor. Honestly speaking no one got their first gen Go caring for the battery life, it could barely last 5 mins on recording but people loved the 360 hybrid coz it was cool, affordable, unique combined with their powerful app and software. Those 5 mins were plenty enough to get good quality memorable action shots however one could possibly imagine. The Go now following the GoPro or similar has ruined the concept. Some companies like runcam are taking full advantage of this but insta360 was the master at it.

For the love of all that is holy man, when you are doing a comparison of two modes, PLEASE put them on the screen at the same time!! I don't know how it is even possible to compare two things that are not on the screen at the same time! Even at the eye doctor they have to go back and forth and back and forth and back and forth again between the two options for me to be able to say better or worse. This is eliminated if you have them both at the same time. ☹️
