Really useful tutorial, thanks for this. I just picked one of these up and this is an invaluable resource. One comment is that the device orientation you mention at the end of the video doesn't seem to be visible any longer. Is that due to a firmware update?

One quick question for you.....did I understand you correctly that I could connect my camera to my samsung tablet (where I have my insta 360 app downloaded) directly with a usb cable and do my editing there???? I much prefer to edit on a larger tablet rather than my phone.....my eyes aren't as good as they once were!!! LOL

hey Fred, you can use the app on your tablet! it doesn't have to be an actual smartphone, so you should be good.

This camera is waterproof down to 10m or 33ft without a case. If you are going deeper or close to those numbers it’s better to use a case that they sell

Great video! Thanks :) What is the best way to take a photo from the end of a long selfie stick to then adjust later? I can't really use voice as I am on Android (so no earbuds) and shouting to the camera might not be a good idea. Using the phone app might not be good if I am hanging on to the stick over an edge and do not want to drop it!! So is there another way? Do I have to try and grab the 360 photo from a video that I start before I extend the selfie stick? Or can I somehow take a photo? I am very new and do not quite figure this one out. Thanks!

Hello. There is a timer for pictures that you can use. You can also connect your smartphone to the camera and it will act as a remote control

hello Ashley, I don't have a full list but I'm pretty sure your phone works according to the specs I found online. Try downloading their insta360 app before you buy the camera itself

Thanks for the tutorial. Small question- I just bought the X2 recently. I shot a video from my motorcycle but it plays back in slow motion in the camera OR after editing on the Insta360 software (on my Laptop) also it plays back in slow motion. I had set it to 3K-100. Can you kindly advice is there anything I need to do in the camera or editing stage to bring it to normal speed?

you can change the speed to make it faster and match the correct or desired speed. If you use a regular editor it will be easier, I would open the file on a 24fps timeline, then "interpret footage" or set your 3K video clip to 24fps, and once you drag the video to the main timeline change the speed to 400X

use lower frame rates, 24 is ideal, shutter speed auto or use 1/50.

My understanding is you have to have a cell phone to activate the x2 and its picky about what brand of phone you have. My question is can you use an Android tablet device that's not a cell phone? If not which cell phones do you recommend.

Well not only for activation but to edit as well. You can edit on your computer but the app on the phone will have all the features. You can use it on a tablet, assuming the tablet can run the insta360 app

You can activate it on your tablet too, again, assuming the app runs on it. Did you try installing it already?

@@OttoJulian_ Negative, I don't currently own a cell or a tablet and am researching prior to purchase of one or the other. I have installed studio on my PC. I really do not want a cell phone and hope to use a tablet instead. Looks like if I get a 64bit tablet with a current version of android, blue tooth and wifi it should work. I contacted insta360 support via email with the same question and the reply was try one and see if it works. Not vary helpful.

Yeah if you still don't have a tablet that will make it easier and harder at the same time. Get something up to date, I recommend getting either something like an iPad or a tablet from Samsung

chromebook to edit the videos? I don't think you can do that. The phone should be ok to use with this camera, you don't need the gyroscope as the camera will do everything, but you need something to edit the files after you make the videos.

Yeah, but like I said, editing can be done on both (PC or smartphone). The editing on a PC is limited, you don't get the special features, just basic editing

I think you can send her the original file from the insta360 (it’s 2 files per video) and then she can open them using the 360 app either on the phone or on her PC (also using the insta360 app)

Hi, stabilization is done on the edit. Don't worry about orientation, as long as you are on 360 you will have a complete view when you go to the editing

Sorry about that. Go to the settings on the camera, second page use the lower-right icon, and select "screen auto sleep". Download the app and pair the camera with the phone. Once connected using the app should be straight forward (to control the camera)
