One VERY important detail (and maybe a deal-breaker for some users like me that want to shoot very long videos) is that the Insta360 creates a new clip every 30min BUT stops recording for 15 seconds before continuing on so, if you are trying to record an event that is 45 minutes, you will end up with a 15 second gap around minute 30.

I have a 360 but looking at getting the GoPro. I had the 360 on a tripod that fell over on the first time out, scratched the lens and now looking at a cost of repair plus downtime. The GoPro doesn't need all of this because it has screen protectors which can be replaced at a reasonable cost unlike the 360 lens guards which are hard to get and cost much more. I also find that the 360 images and video are quite a poor standard (often pixelated) on the 360. I've seen hundreds of images on the 360 FB page with scratched lenses. The GoPro can have the lens cover swapped in an instant with a spare one, you have 4 in a pack and the GoPro costs a whole bunch less that the 360.

I own the Max as well as the One X. I edit exclusively on the app for both of them. Because of all the extra features offered for the Insta360 in my opinion it crushes the GoPro Quick app. As far as quality (video and sound) the Max is the dominating champion. The workflow as far as editing and exporting are so much quicker on the Insta360. Oh I agree with you about underwater footage from both. Trash. For me it's difficult to give up the Max's footage quality. So it will always remain in my camera bag. I have however began to use my Insta360 more often just because it's quicker to go from camera to finish product and my editing time is cut almost in half. LLWAV!!

Surprisingly it's not, the camera has a wind reduction switch which allows the camera's audio algorithm to focus on the sound source and reduce extraneous noise if wishing to vlog or record yourself speaking to the camera

Any chance you know the run time of both? I paddle board race and I put it on the front of my board and edit after the race. I used to get an 1.5hrs full run time with my GoPro, and I still do with my current 7 black, my Insta360 one R goes off when it decides. Any idea about this?

Since I met the first Insta360 I had love at first sight. It has a ton of awesome options that I love. In the last month I have been researching the One X 2 and One R and in general I can say that they are in a tie, the One R wins by very little. However, I found several terrible comments about both cameras by users who bought them from via Amazon. They basically regret having bought it, the factory defects, lousy customer service, water protection failures and the like. I am a little worried about making the investment and having to regret it later. I've been looking at the Go Pro as it has experiences with various action cameras but I don't know what to do.

don't buy the insta, complete catastrophe. not even worth 30$ for what you get, the lens ultra fragile, the battery start dying the fist month, it will develop stutter and deformation of videos over time, and the app is complete scam bug.

Yeah I bought the One R and had so many issues with it. It would only ever record 5 to 30 minutes and I'd go about trying to record my outings on my ebike just to find out it only recorded 5 minutes of the whole trip

You have to manually adjust exposure on your phone in sunlit conditions. lol Also even after I managed to take footage it died when I used it in the water. Had it for five days. Waste of money. Lucky I bought through Best Buy. I read Instas direct service is just as trashy as the product.

Any selfie stick with a 360 camera can be made invisible as long as the connection to the camera is clean (no extruding parts) - invisible is just the 360 camera rendering out the stick so yes, you can use the Insta360 selfie stick with the max or the max grip selfie stick by GoPro with Insta360

Both become a paperweight if you scratch the lens as there is NO way to get them repaired! However, if you sign up to GoPro Plus then one of the benefits is being able to replace your device twice a year if it gets damaged (no questions asked) for a small excess fee.

From what I've seen from other YTers, it was around $150 to replace a One X lens so I would assume the same for the X2. Or you could also try to buff it out like others have done, with varying degrees of success.

Great comparison video! The ONE X2 looks pretty cool. I’ve been shooting a bunch of 360 content with the Max and absolutely love it! I mainly use Premiere to edit my videos together. What is a pain with the Max is you have to manually extract the ambisonic spatial audio file and sync the audio in Premiere to get true 360 spatial audio. That is because GoPro desktop PC app is incapable of doing that for some reason. Other than that annoyance, I generally get good results with the Max. Looking for the future camera releases!

You didn't say which had better video quality. The shots in the forest in low light, the noise and compression for both were awful. Initially, for my Fusion, I used the Insta360 Studio and got used to it, but now the GoPro Viewer on desktop seems faster and easier (but only because I used Insta Studio first). The Max you don't have to stitch (like the Fusion) and just drop into the GP Viewer and viewing it on your desktop is way more accurate and faster to export it out!

yes it has a function called timeshift which is the same as timewarp on gopro

In GoPro timewarp you have hyperlapse out of the camera - the big advantage is the video size. If you record long trip with x5 timewarp you can record hours of 4K footage.

Mine failed after being underwater for the first time. It was fully sealed and water got into one camera. Electronics continue to work except one camera. They said they would have to look at my camera in the USA to expidite, but they coordinated shipping so I have to send it back to the factory in Hong Gong to be looked it. I would stick with GoPro, they have much better desktop software. Insta360 desktop software is awful. Maybe I'll have a working unit by Fall.

I assume it would be impossible with the insta360, and that’s basically what’s stopping me from buying that. But if it’s anyway impossible/difficult with two GoPros I can disregard that aspect. Sure is, you can know combine any footage into the new gopro app, so even if you shoot 360 with insta360 you can save those clips to your smartphone camera roll and add them into the gopro app to further edit
