I use X3 to shoot continuously for 2-3hr events during night/indoors settings. at interval between 20 - 30mins each, using 5.7k mode. it usually shows overheat only after 50mins mark, but I can continue operate immediately after replacing new battery pack. my question is for X4, 1. if shooting at 8K, how long before it will shows overheats and shut down. 2. max. useable zoom comparison between the X3/X4. 3. so how well does it fares for fireworks display video mode. 4. because both are using same 1/2" sensor, is the image processing chip better in X4? 5. does the quick reader and mic adapter still works in X4 or need buy new one?

I am still testing but so far I find the my new Insta360 X4 (1/2" sensor) does NOT make a better 360 video than my Insta360 RS One 1-inch. Even my QooCam 3 (1/1.55" sensor) makes a better 360 video. I did immediately set my X4 sharpness to low, so maybe I should put that back to the default? Please, Could you do some X4 comparisons of various settings such as sharpness? BTW, anyone else sometime have the X4 zenith area 'darkened'? On my X4 the Nadir (under certain settings) sort looks like the camera has glaucoma when looking straight up into a blue sky.

Can I mount insta 360 x4 on my helmet and use it’s single lens mode with the widest fov for motovlogging ? Or should I go with gopro hero 12 ?

one area the GoPro12 outdoes the X4 is in deep scuba dive where the camera needs to have lamps to light the scene... you can do that kind of shooting on a GoPro as the footage is just in front of you... with the X4 in deep water you won't be able to light the scene of 360... so if you are a scuba diver you would need both cams...

If you are going to make a comparison between the x3 and the x4 I would like to see if there is a difference in taking 360 photos, I have already seen some photos on Facebook and I have the impression that the x4 is better in photos, but I could be wrong.

I just exchanged my x3 for an x4 and can assure the image quality is much better on the x4. The low light capability is also better than the x3 with much less noise. If your goal is accurately capturing events then the upgrade is the way to go imo.

Just FYI- I found in testing between the X4 single lens video mode at 4K is inferior in quality to the GoPro 10 shooting in 4K also. I shot the same subject and zoomed in a great amount on the same area in both cameras' video. The X4 was ok but the GoPro 10 was somewhat better in capturing details. I think this is to be expected in a 360 camera (although in single mode for this test). I wanted to know if I could leave my GoPro 10 behind next trip, guess not. I am very happy with the 360 capabilities of the X4 at 8K however. Remember, when you reframe the X4's 360 video, the resolution outputs at 2.7K. Just like the 360 GoPro Max's 5.6 resolution reframed down to 1080p.

bingo, its getting closer but it isn't there yet, the reframing of 8K to 2.7K-ish (for a typical action cam FOV) finally looks enough like true 4K that when mixed with real 4K video in a single project it isn't as jarring... but it still isn't as good. we need 11K+ to get true 4K reframing. also at the consumer price level, 360 cameras continue to use smaller, inferior sensors mainly because they need to put two sensors in each camera which drives cost UP so they compensate by using cheaper smaller sensors than a normal action cam to try and keep the price DOWN. the 1/2 inch sensors in the X4 can't compete with the dynamic range and low light capabilities of the larger sensors in normal action cams like the GoPro Hero 12, DJI Action 4, or Insta360 Ace Pro and that's why even running in 4K single lens mode they still have inferior quality. Perhaps someday the holy grail of a 360 camera that equals the output image quality of a standalone single lens camera will happen and all action cams will become 360 cams, but we are a long way from that still. the X4 remains the best consumer 360 camera on the market, but for most will remain an extra "b-roll" type camera that supplements other cameras rather than acts as an all in one solution.

@@canyonblue737-8 Thank for the informative response. I have a trip coming up in July and I was waiting for the GoPro Max 2 for a year now. I suspect it will come out this Sept. but I bought the X4 instead and pretty happy with it. I have used the GoPro Max and it's great if you don't 'punch in' too much. The reframe is 1080p. The X4 lets you punch in further of course. Stabilization has come a long way too over the last decade.

Why aren’t my images being saved to my iPhone album as 360 images after I chose export as 360? It’s just flat images doesn’t save with that 360 symbol and FB doesn’t support 360 images no more ?😢

I was disappointed, X4 does not comes with 1" sensor. would u be doing any video comparison between X4 vs 1" 360 vs acepro, especially for night? my X3 fell from a height and with scratches right in the center on the front facing camera. am deciding if I should get acepro or X4.

Instas are super heavy and very fragile for actual action sports, good for blogging but terrible for surfing etc, over heating and terrible low light performance mixed with the worst customer service ever.. I'll stick with gopro thanks

After reframing the 8k 360 resolution you DONT get 4k resolution ! This is the big issue of the X4

you need 11K+ in a 360 camera to allow for 4K reframing to a normal action cam field of view. that technology does not exist in the price or size factor of consumer 360 cameras and remains unlikely to arrive for up to 6 more years IMHO (3 generations.) we just barely got 8K this year and it already pushes the limits of modern computers and mobile devices to handle the output.

@canyonblue737-8 qoocam released 8k 360 video with better camera sensor way years ago. So hardware exist. Insta360 didn't push to boundary of tech. They just didn't upgrade

GoPro is really really falling off, but you'd be surprised how far the name continues to carry them. For MANY, MANY people when its time to buy an action cam they just buy a "GoPro" because they assume its the best. They continue to outsell the competition and it will still be some years till they get passed, but if they don't turn their broken ship around soon they will sink in time.
