For those of you who feel like this sounds too "thin" or not quite full bodied enough, I think you're right. But that doesn't mean this isn't a useful plugin. It's designed with production in mind, and most of your favorite guitar tones don't sound nearly this good before they're processed and fit into the mix. We have to keep in mind that Misha has the mind of a producer just as much if not more than he has the mind of a guitarist. Especially consider that for the majority of his career he wrote the bass and synth parts. He designs his guitar tones with the greater picture of the mix already imprinted in his head. This plugin should work excellently for Misha's style of metal because of the way that he and Periphery tend to use guitars is as complimentary instruments rather than the focal point. His production emphasizes the guitar carrying the color of the melody while the bass and synths hold the meat. There's a reason why they quad track their guitars AND often double the guitar parts with synths. He knows, and we have to remember that the music comes first, and the instruments are just a means of creating it.

Some of the tones in this video are probably my favourite you have ever got from amp modelling. It responds so well to your pick attack and with the highs curved off it sounds smooth when you really dig in. The mid range really comes out without getting clanky. I've always loved tones with a low-mid emphasis so I'm in a bit of a minority there with how modern pickups and pedals are voiced with a hi-mid emphasis for djenty tones.

Sounds very Line6 PodFarm-ish.....from 15 years ago.
@nekroreaper63486 жыл бұрын
aftr this comment i opened up my podfarm 2 plugin since i use a line 6 ux2 interface and it came with it and decided to see if any of the presets sounded like anything close to this then decided to mimic the sounds myself. after a couple hours of playing around with it....you arent wrong. i have a few JST plugins from artists which i adore but this comment made me really think about it because i never used the podfarm in my life until now except for when i didnt know shit and just needed a quick tone. in the end, i remembered Dethklok when Brendan first came out with it, used a line 6 interface also i think the XT? its called? and one of the presets every podfarm has he used just tweaked, and it sounded heavy as fuck at the time for the show. So i played with that preset also and got an even bigger and wider sounding heavier tone than this plugin did in the whole video. amp sims are really all the same in various ways but you nailed this comment on the head. It does sound like something line 6 would've made years ago.

Might be a cool plugin, but after JST filed a false copyright claim on a guy who paid his own money (150 dollars) to get the plugin and didn't like it in his video, I think I'll spend my money elsewhere. His review wasn't that great, but still. And yes, they did kind of apologise, but not really. Playing with copyright strikes is dangerous, because if you get 3, your channel is automatically taken down. If anyone is interested, the KZbinr is called Stay Metal Ray. And please don't take this as me trying to make Ola look bad, that's definitely now what I'm saying.

CatPick Studios too be fair, in the video, his do’s were horrible and were just clipping everywhere. BUT, that doesn’t take away he did copyright strike his video and now Joey has messed up his reputation quite a lot. Joey Sturgis issued a public apology in a video, which seemed pretty sincere in my opinion, he knows exactly how bad his action was. I don't want to defend him, it is up for everyone to develop a perspective on this matter, I just wanted to let you know he's not necessarily that big of an ahole, he just got angry and made a mistake in a bad emotional state, we all do mistakes. Maybe no one cares but i like this sound better than others you reviewed because i'm more a punk rocker than a metal head. This plugin amp sounds very similar to Strung Out and other 90s skate core bands who recorded with mesas and jcms back then and similar today. Its not the usual fashioned punk rock tone today but Strung Out still sound like that. They are also half-progmetal in their riffs by the way.

To me it's kinda of an elephant in the room that Misha's Toneforge and Fortin Nameless came out pretty much at the same time, everybody is reviewing them separately and nobody is doing a direct comparison of the two. It's like everyone respects JST and NeuralDSP and doesn't want to be rude by saying "oh this one is actually better than the other". Is it just me?

Seems like it might just be you perhaps. Why does it have to turn into a competition? It's music, it's about community, sharing, innovating. The competitive view is certainly a mindset. One might argue the two 'similar' products put out by two independent companies serve different audiences. The Fortin def has badass bluesy plexi tones and is based on a much older classic. Dif generations of tech, dif generation audience. In music as in all things, why don't we say, "damn, now I have two badass plug-ins to rock with"?

Sacredgeometry How said I don't like them? I in fact bought both of them during the pre-sale, when there weren't even demoes to check out how they sound, I trusted both brands - and I'm happy with both plugins. I'm just saying that there usually are zillions of video of people making direct comparisons of guitars, pedals, amps, amp modelers, plugins, you name it. In this specific case though it just seems like something that shall not be done.

Just a side bar. I've been liking the plugins more when I run into my Manley force DI. Its Valve tube on the way in. It just seems to shape the tone better overall rather than going in through a regular DI through the Apollo 8. There is the harmonic "smear" I like to call it. Granted a Manley isn't cheap, but it sounds less artificial and more realistic over just a DI and a SIM for my ears.

Okay, I may get stoned for this, but I don't think this amp sim is very good. I've had it for about 3 months now, have tried tweaking just about everything, different guitars, even different DAWs. What am I doing wrong? I've watched so many videos and read reviews where people rave about this sim, so I keep going back to it, but DAMN if I cant get even close to a decent tone. Previously I bought the STL Will Putney and was really impressed, so I then was equally impressed with the Andy James and then Howard Benson stuff. Continued success with THU Overload, Fortin Nameless, and recently Waves PRS. I figured this JST stuff HAS to be amazing. My first hour with it, I was convinced something didn't load correctly. After countless sessions, tweaking, trying different gear altogether, I still am not even close. Not trying to exaggerate, every turn of that dial is just surprisingly bad tone. It cant be this bad, can it? What am I doing wrong here?

Exactly the same problem with me. I just cannot get it to sound even usable. No matter what I do, it always sounds very very awful. Not sure what's going on. I have tried different interfaces, like RME Babyface Pro FS and Focusrite scarlet. Sounds equally bad on both of them. Maybe Windows has something to do with it? I tried it on a Windows 10 PC and a Windows 11 laptop. Both sounded equally bad to me. Although I must admit this plugin sounds very good when Ola is playing it. He is playing on a Mac. Does it have anything to do with it? I am curious to know, have you find any solution for this problem?

I know there is an IR loader, but with Two Notes wall of sound there are many more options when placing mic and speaker as well as being able to add to it.

Sounds really great, but i wonder is it the right way for guitar players? I mean, you need a PC/Mac (ok, everybody has one now), a decent interface and good monitor speakers and/or headphones for really good VST plugin sound, oh, youy need also a DAW (ok, Reaper is free), all that costs, and the plugin also is't free, 150$ is not cheap. There is also a question, if in the future next gen OS will work well with it? 20 years old amps works great (even the shitty ones), but 20 years ago has anybody eveh though about VST's?

A bit too "tight" for me and I can haz that interesting mid-range for my style I suppose.. I like a baseball batt with a few nails in it along with a cynderblock swinging on a steel chain... But if I played Misha style... But yeah.. I don't get along with his presets much. Sounds dope when he plays through em though.

On a regular old pair of KRKs, the tone straight out of the box is really ear-fatiguing. It's the like the sound the Grindmachine plugin has built in, better resolution, but with really aggressive 5k.

@Ben Kerley Funner fact: Having to pay extra for a convenient starting point is a dick move.

This plug in adds a bunch of high frequency noise/hiss that is present constantly that I don't hear in any of these demos, and only occurs when I have this plug in on. Any ideas?

Hmmm, it seems if you ditch the cab section and use custom IR’s the tone is improved. So far of all the reviews I’ve seen the Fortin Nameless is the best amp plugin out there.

Sorry for the potentially stupid question, but what's the song you're playing towards the beginning of the video?
