Crazy eh! I recommend Alan Watts to you, for some more interesting discussions on duality and self. One of the great speakers of our time.

To every one saying that Instagram is toxic or that they deleted their account, that's not the point. The point is everyone lies to the point where we can't determine what the truth is. Besides in the video they weren't just pointing at Instagram, but rather pointing at every type of social media, that includes KZbin, snapchat, Twitter, etc. Now sure Instagram was the primary victim but other social media sites follow the same need of approval format.

I think society just hasn't caught on yet. Like, cigarettes were pushed for ages but now for sure we know they are harmful physically and psychologically. People still smoke though. It may take a long time before people get off the instant gratification train from things like instagram and tiktok, but the question is why and how. Will something even more distracting come about, or will people seek a deeper source of entertainment? It's hard to say, the masses generally don't eat up deep in the same way that they eat up shallow... but that may just be how it is now. Our global consciousness as humans may yet still evolve! I don't lay awake from it and don't feel pressure to pomp out paintings to post 3 times a week. my art progression and development and studies are more important to me than the amount of followers. noticed most is superficial anyway as there are so many who follow for 3 days or so and unfollow without liking anything or comment anything. mostly Russian females do that .. and American females. I'm 58 and have to comment on this video and social media. First of all, congrats on a very well made video with a realistic and well-portrayed commentary on social media and what it is seemingly doing to people. This isn't going to be a negative comment from the older generation about how superficial social media is and how out of touch from reality it makes people. I give the younger generation such credit for having to grow up being scrutinized pretty much every friggen day of their lives! For me, thankfully, I didn't have to deal with social media as a preteen or as a teen and especially not as a young adult when I was growing up in the 70's. Okay, we DID have a lot of drugs....(wait a minute, doesn't every generation?). I was riding my bicycle all day and not coming home till "the streetlights turn on" as per my mom who had dinner on the table every night at five pm. I was NOT consumed with whether or not I should post something or write a comment about how I REALLY feel about so and so's new haircut. I never had to talk myself out of saying something mean to the person who posted yet another picture of themselves looking for compliments EVERY SINGLE DAY ! YIKES! AND once I was home, I could kick back and relax! Never had to worry about seeing a post of myself on FaceBook or being tweeted about because I made some stupid, off the cuff remark that I really didn't mean. When I was a kid, the worst that would usually happen is fights with my brother---or getting grounded for not doing my chores. (Does this generation even have chores anymore?) But I never had to worry about becoming part of FB's: "you-fucked-up- forever fame. I give you all credit who live in this time of constant in-your-face programming. It's got to be very hard to be "on" all the time or pretend to be "on". Hey, come to think of it, we did the same thing growing up trying to be someone we knew we were not if we wanted to be a part of the more popular crowd for whatever reason. But this generation has to be perfect 24/7 and that's kind of a tall order for anyone at any age. I think the younger generation has incredible technical abilities, most are extremely intelligent and motivated to make the world a better place. Bottom line: They just want what we all want: to be liked for who we are. That is NOT asking for a lot!
