Although this video is about an antenna for a DAB radio, but would this type be Ok for listening to marine frequencies (about 150MHz) on a portable scanner while in a car. Currently, I use a rubber duck antenna on my scanner, but this isn't very good if I'm sitting inside the car.

I take it this magnetic one isnt amplified, how much better are the amplified aerials?

So I have a threaded usb dongle so will I need a sma Ariel ?

how strong are they as im frighted when im driving along the ariel comes off and breaks my back window i had a indoor window area but i was getting poor sound so ive gone for a magnetic one

The aerial on the saloon car in the video should stay attached at over 100mph according to the retailer. It may be worth checking with the company that sells or makes your aerial incase they have a speed rating for it. I've used magnetic aerials for a few years and know of cars that have had them for much longer without it moving or coming detached. Apologies for the late reply.

There really strong, I’ve had mine on the car for over 5 years and never had a problem, well apart from it rusting but still works great
