Question thought u shouldn’t run ground wire from amp to the battery directly??? I have a popping noise from my speakers when I hit my air ride switch is this bad ground??
@sikbaggers Жыл бұрын
Coils (fill, dump vavles and compressor relays magnatize and cause a voltage feedback every time they are turned off or on. That is known, What isnt so known is why some audio sytems pick up that noise so much better than others. Typically it is ground issue but not always. Its more common on systems that use RCA cables. that are ran from the head unit to the amps. But again, thats not always the case. First thing I do is eliminate all body grounds/frame grounds. Then I put a diode acorss the positive and negative wires feeding the coils. The diode I use is the 1N4005. The diode has a stripe on one side that must go to the positive wire. The closer they are to the vavle the better they will work. This si the diodes amzn.to/4a4mtEa ...this is apretty common issue on harleys after installing air ride. And this is the fix everyone uses.
@DoRC4 жыл бұрын
Looks good. One thing you always want to disconnect ground first and reconnect it last on a battery. that way if you are connecting the positive connection and your tool or something happens to touch the frame or something that is grounded it won't short out.

the internal pod bracing is there to provide rigidity to the plastic to keep it from resonating at certain frequencies. if you cut a hole in the pod to make more room you prevent resonance, and vibration, but you also prevent sound pressure behind the driver which causes bass loss. the best solution would be to make the pods out of a dead material, reinforce the plastic pods, or pack them with batting material to absorb resonant freqs.

@sikbaggers4 жыл бұрын
The larger spade on the bikes wiring will be positive ..but a simple test can be done to find positive. if you have a volt meter, put it on AC volts and touch it on the speaker connections to find + and -. If you get +12v that is correct, if you get -12v that is backwards. This will help you identify + and - on the speaker.

@scottford35045 жыл бұрын
I’m wondering the same. When do you need to flash the factory radio?
@motorcyclessoundsystems-mi27855 жыл бұрын
Factory radios on 2014 and newer Harley-Davidson audio systems use a “high fidelity” EQ curve. This EQ will cause excessive distortion with any amplified audio upgrade and will lead to speaker damage. Hence, “flash” your factory radio to remove this EQ. This has to be done with special equipment and by a shop who know, like us. @t @t @t

Wondering if you could steer me in the right direction on what to tell the HD service guy to flash it to! Thanks in advance
@sikbaggers4 жыл бұрын
I have since found out they quit flashing radios unless its thier radio gear. The old "flash " was simply turning the internal amp off and also turning on the rear speaker wires that are under your fairing. If you have eveything hooked up now and its working just keep the bass turned down on the head unit, turn off the volume speed control and set your gains for your speakers and you will be fine. My SG had 10 speakers and 3 amps ran off the stock unit and it was fine. I never had anything done. I only suggested to turn on the rear channels but its not necessary

The amp won't start drawing power until the remote wire sees power to turn the amp on.

I bought the aquatic av head unit its a plug in type now I ran all my speaker wire I put my new speakers in my new amp and new head unit the one thing I'm confused on is what do I do with the old speaker wire that was hooked up to the old speakers I believe I can just cap them and not use them because it was hooked up to the old wire harness but now that I'm by passing it with the amp I'm sorry if its a stupid question I'm new at this
@sikbaggers4 жыл бұрын
you are correct ...you can just cap those off...We usually dont remove any factory wires..just cap them in case down the road you or someone else may need them they are still there.

Why change the speaker wires? What did that do to make the installation easier or better?

heavier gauge wire for the bigger amp...stock is 12. Use any online chart to see how much your amps is pushing vs how long the wire is and itll show you the gauge you need.

Good video..i have 2011 Electra glide..any recommendations on a stereo system with amp? Thank you
@sikbaggers4 жыл бұрын
The 2011 more than likely has the 5.25 inch fairing speakers, start there by getting some 5.25 to 6.5 inch speaker adapters off amazon for about 20 bucks...upgrade to a pro audio 6.5 speaker. PRV, Ground Zero, DS18 etc about 200 for a pair is a rough price on pro audio. ....get a Sound Digital 800.4 EVOX 4 channel amp. This is a pretty basic major fairing upgrade from what you have in the bike now. Those speakers are about 35 watt speakers...the pro audios will be around 200-300 watt speakers...you and your passenger wont have any trouble hearing this set up at 70mph half volume.
@mrbrad32366 ай бұрын
Will the amp you installed power four of those speakers? Might be a dumb question but had to ask looking to add two more of those DS18s. Your videos have saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars. I appreciate you sir.
@sikbaggers6 ай бұрын
yes sir you can push 4 speakers with that amp...4 channel amp so you can bridge it for nearly twice the power to run 2 speakers or just run 4 speakers at the normal wattage

Hey thanks for the video. How did you mount the amp to the tray in the fairing? I got the same setup but I cannot figure out how to best mount that amp since its too big to sit down in the tray.
@sikbaggers4 жыл бұрын
i use tool box liners from any hardware store...cut it too fit so there is no vibration between the amp and tray and then big zip ties or double sided sticky velcro strips. You zip it down good and it wont move
@Anthony-kj2vl Жыл бұрын
Dumb question, but where do you hook the ground wire and power wire for the amp
@sikbaggers Жыл бұрын
Hook your power wire straight to the battery. You can run the ground to the battery but I prefer to run it to the frame ground where the battery is grounded. Follow the black wire down under your starter from your battery. There is a 7/16th bolt that grounds your battery to the frame. remove that (its kind of tough to get to) and add your ground wire there. To make it easier to get to remove your oil dipstick, and the starter cover. Its on the end of your starter and one single small bolt in the middle. there is nothing behind it..its just a beauty cover. then you can access that bolt much easier. I hope this helps.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered…if I’m just planning on doing the 2 fairing speakers with the amp in your parts list do I go with the 4 or 8 ohm speakers?
@sikbaggers Жыл бұрын
hey now worries ill try to explain it...if you get a 4 channel bridgable amp you and get the 8 ohm speakers and bridge the amp to 2 channel....meaning using all 4 channel on 2 speakers..that would bring the load down in half..from 8 ohm to 4 ohm draw from the amp. The amp should be 4ohm stable bridgeable amp. Adding more speakers later will effect this though. So make sure you only want the fairing speakers and never plan on adding more..if you do you will have to change the amp more than likely. There are a ton of variables that come into play.

One question, I’m wanting to junk my Boom Audio Stage II speakers on my 2019 RGS, and hook it up with all DS18 sound...what’s your professional opinion on the DS18 Pro’s? Very impressive sound quality? Would you buy it? Thanks in advance, and keep on slangin them vids brother! ✌🏼
@sikbaggers4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Danny...Much appreciated. The ds18s are a solid choice for the price rage for sure. They only issue I have found is there are no 8" mid bass speakers for the 8" lids. Now that being said adding anything that can handle bass is fine...in the parking lot. Riding down the road youre not going to hear that bass at all. So adding a a decent set of 8ohm speakers and getting a 4 ohm or 2ohm stable amp so you can bridge the amp and add more power to them is the best route for a clean, loud sound.

With installing this system did the factory radio need to be reflashed? I have a 2020 street glide special
@sikbaggers3 жыл бұрын
Doing it this way will not require anything to be flashed...however if you want a cleaner "flattened" sound you can have them set it to 4 channel no amp...thats all the flash is...they plug it in, go to the drop down menu and select whatever they want and it sets the audio out levels on the radio....That being said I have never had one flashed. And using the right amp and speakers you will have a huge improvement over the stock harley junk.

Can you install an amp and speakers like that on a 2020 road glide? Also without flashing it after install
@sikbaggers4 жыл бұрын
yes, When Harley used to "flash radios" all they were doing was using a drop down menu to select what channels are turned off and on, flattening the EQ and or turning the eternal amp on or off. We used to flash them 4 channel, no amp. This would turn on the rear channels that are already on every bike but usually not turned on and also turn the internal amp off. You can still do this even though harley quit flashing radios. Just split your front channels and send those signals to the LOC and come out 4 channel RCA to your amp

Hey thanks man.,.have been into you fairing yet to see if you dont already have a small amp in there? Not sure if the stock 4 speaker bikes already have one or not. But in any case if you do not you certainly can do this and add one...convert the 4 channels from the radio with the LOC and then add your amp, come out of the amp and run back to your 4 channels of speakers.

@@MrAyarza that amp has high level and low level inputs...the high level is basically what you use when you don't have rca but they sound like garbage and I don't recommend that route. If you look at the wiring diagram for that amp there are 2 plugs that go from the side there that have rca on the other end. Maybe 4 inches long. Plug those into the amp. Then you have low level input rca which are far superior in sound. Here is the link. Download and go to page 7 ..you will see what I'm referring to. Its basically pigtails with Rca inputs..so it would go from radio,l to LOC to these pigtails which plugs into the amp. www.rockfordfosgate.com//rftech/library/2017/03_amplifiers/1230-60375-01-b_pbr400x4d-man.pdf

@sikbaggers4 жыл бұрын
Im not much of a boom audio guy but you can check your specs on your amps and try to stay in that spec range for your speakers. You want to stay in the watts and ohms range of that amp. I would say any pro audio speaker will be an upgrade form the boom stuff...Ive torn out a lot of boom audio...thousands of dollars worth and replaced it all with new amps and speakers..but if you are wanting to salvage the amps just find out the specs and stay in that range and pick a better speaker
