Take note everyone on KZbin. THIS is how you make a tutorial. Short, to the point but not rushed, sufficient explanation and no five minute intro about your channel begging for likes and subscriptions. And it worked. Even a technical idiot like myself was able to change the processor cooler. Without it breaking, I might add. So thanks for an awesome tutorial.

You didn't cover the most important part with enough detail: getting the four corners back in... it takes ALMOST A MIRACLE to get all four corners in at the same time without breaking off the white parts.

I had to use a flat head screw driver to guide the white parts into the holes precisely when I was messing with one of my old computers. These intel fans are annoying!

Arrow direction releases the black inner shaft to move up and down in the clear plastic outer.. turned To locked the black element in position relative the the clear element.. when installed the back element is fiully inserted into the clear and locked creating a lock on the motherboard.. when installing, the black portion needs to be retracted and locked so initially the clear elements can pass through the motherboard holes. Then unlock and push the black element through to fully insert into the clear and then lock in place by rotating. Doing this correctly should not require much pushing force

So incredibly helpful. A HACK I just did, when reinstalling fan, and the plastic pins were stretched out a bit making it difficult to make in the holes, was to wrap a piece of thread around base of plastic pins to keep them together. Cut any dangling pieces as close as possible. All pins went in easily, fan is seated well, and all secured. Temps look good again 👏👏

I was one of those that experienced great difficulty. Here's how I got past it. First, examine the way the white pegs at the bottom work. Each peg has a split white piece that a black piece will travel downwards to push the white peg apart and prevent it from popping out of the hole when properly seated. Notice the flat circular part of the white peg, this ring is what will rest on top of the motherboard once the peg has gone through the hole. First pull up on the 4 black pegs that turn as this will complete retract the middle piece that pushes the peg outwards, but then also push down on one black piece to see how this works. The black piece almost immediately reaches the thickest part of the white piece preventing the white peg from collapsing inwards to get skinny enough to easily pop into the motherboard hole. So the solution is simple. Don't press on the 4 black pegs like Linus shows here. Instead make sure the 4 black pegs are completely retracted and don't touch them again until the white pieces are perfectly seated with the white ring of the peg laying on the motherboard. So: 1. Pull up on the 4 black pegs 2. Handle the heatsink by the black ring only 3. Insert the heatsink into the holes. Give it a wiggle as Linus suggests to ensure the pegs are in the hole 4. Push down on the ring BESIDE the peg with a thumb and one finger, but not the top of the peg and use the other thumb and finger on the complete opposite side to do 2 pegs at once 5. Repeat for the other holes 6. The white pegs will still give a click once they seat in the hole correctly. Give it another wiggle and it shouldn't move anymore. I used my phone's camera to check each white ring was down and then a tug for good measure (I don't have access to the back of the motherboard.) 7. Now you can turn the 4 black pegs 90 degrees to lock the white pegs apart Don't forget to plug the fan back in like I did

LGA1151 CPU coolers can fit on LGA1200 sockets. The heatsink mounting on Intel's new LGA 1200 (code name Comet Lake S) is identical to all LGA115x sockets (LGA 1150, LGA 1151, LGA 1155, LGA 1156). Therefore, all Noctua CPU coolers that support LGA 115x also support LGA 1200 and don't require any mounting updates.

This video was so helpful and informative! I don't know why but I found this job to be very intimidating (installing heatsink and fan) I think that the instructions that came with the stock cooler were misleading! How they said that you needed to use two screw drivers and turn at the same time to install was just weird and off the mark! Now that I know to keep the arrows away from the fan bracket (or clockwise as you say) and then SIMPLY push down on both corners at the same time just makes life and the task at hand so much easier. That say; and money permitting, I think it would be much better to get a better cooler than the stock model! Have a great day! Peace :) :) :)

He Linus, I have been listening to many of these guys saying to put down some new thermo paste. Well, I built a computer a few years ago, just saying I have done this before. I took the cpu fan off, looks like the one in the video. But in the process, I broke off the little white tabs that lock the fan to the circuit board. So, I had to clean it off again. I took the computer down to the computer shop. Guy took a good 5 min looking at it, then looked on his computer and said, He wanted $150 to fix the heat sink. I said No, that's OK. I go back home and look on line. I find a brand-new heat sink with the Thermo paste for $12. I also found the push button clips for about $1 ea. And the paste mx5. Now the fun part, wait until the snal mail gets here.
