Install Bee Packages

Today Fearless Floyd comes over to help install bees that we got from Mann Lake. These are Carniolan bees. They were in the mail for 6 days. The sugar water can was empty and the bees started making comb. More than half the bees died on the journey. This is not Mann Lake's fault. They stepped up to the plate and gave us a full refund.

They looked dead in the package. Not your fault. The trough feeders are way to much for a new hive. Quart entrance feeders work fine. And don't give them honey. A simple mix of 1 to 1 sugar syrup will stimulate comb building and brood rearing. That and a pollen sub patty. *Ultra Bee" works nicely.. The queen needs that protein to start laying until you have another pollen source come to bloom.

Mkosmo, no not really. They are in the barn and I hope to share that fact soon in a short video. It was chilly when they arrived and I knew they would not have lasted the night. We will see what happens. Thanks for watching and posting your question. Kevin
