Just came across this video while researching this brand. Do you recommend them still? And, one question, if you set the color once, does it maintain the color when you switch the lights off and on? I’m not very interested in using the app every time I want to use the lights.
@KellyConcepts2 жыл бұрын
@@mostman Hey Mike, the lights have been great so far - we do typically just leave it on a normal yellowish/white (2700k) color and it stays that way when we turn off and on the lights - any color will stay where you left it. I did have to fix the colors when the power went out but it's not common.

I'm interested in these lights for my home theater project. Can they also be controlled using a smart switch such as the Brilliant Smart Home Control Switch? I have a few of these in my home and it's a deal breaker if I can't use my existing smart switch for these lights.
@KellyConcepts2 жыл бұрын
It's my understanding that they can't be used with any dimmer switches/smart switches. That is my biggest complaint with these as well looking back. It'd be nice to not have to talk to Alexa all the time.

@@KellyConcepts yup... that's my concern. However, I read a review somewhere that since these work with Google Home and Alexa, that if the smart switch such as the Brilliant smart switch has these apps also integrated, then the lights can be controlled. This is great! I'm struggling on how you split the wire black to the ceiling fan and red to the recessed lights? Can you please guide me to what wires you connected for the split? I'm assuming all 3 ground together, all 3 white together and than 2 black (for the fan) and 2 red (for the lights).. and than you just capped off the 3rd red and 3rd black separately?
@KellyConcepts3 жыл бұрын
Yea pretty close! -All grounds together -All neutrals together -Determine how your switches are wired (is red wire light or fan). This varies depending on the electrician it seems. -Connect black fan wire to black switch wire (cap off red wire from fan) -Connect black recessed light wire to the red switch wire. The red and black coming from the switch are both hot and have power, you basically just separate one to fan and one to new lights. I'm not an electrician, but this is how I've seen it done and have been doing it. Good luck!

that is the biggest problem with these - the light switch stays on and everything is controlled through Alexa or Smartphone at that point. Very helpful! Just a question though, I'm planning on installing recessed lights in a room where there isn't very much light and there is a ceiling fan, just like in your video, and the only other light is 2 wall lights (on the actual walls and not in the ceiling). My question is, if I will be supplying power to the new recessed lights in the ceiling from the fan, how will I turn them on and off without turning the fan on at the same time? Also, the fan is controlled with a special remote looking switch on the wall with 3 different speed option buttons and one button for the built in light in the fan. Sorry if this doesn't make sense, if you want I can email you pictures of the current setup so you know what I'm talking about?
@latinachula200020003 жыл бұрын
Good question.
@KellyConcepts3 жыл бұрын
Hey! I'm very late to this comment, but in a case like that, you'd have to run a new separate wire to your lights. It's not difficult but would require a couple holes in your wall and ceiling where you'd have to run a new wire. Ceiling fans that have both the fan and lights are the only time when you can split it off like I do in this video.
@jasongonzales74753 жыл бұрын

As a licensed electrician for the last 26 years, you probably shouldn’t be doing electrical work
@KellyConcepts10 ай бұрын
Electricians charge $50 to swap out a receptacle. I'd tell people wrapping wires around a few screws is difficult and dangerous if I got paid that much for 5 minutes too.
@chrshuston Жыл бұрын
I want to start off by saying that you did a great job and your end result looks good, however: 1) there was no need to knockout both knockouts(2 wires could fit) 2)you don't need to crawl through anything, get a phishing reel and phish from light to light, if inaccessible- cut a channel perpendicular to the framing on the ceiling in between lights, send a phish from light to light straight down the bay 3 ( use high hats, wafers are for people that aren't actually electricians ( Because most people don't know how to put them in nor do they know the requirements of which kind to put in regarding insulation and non insulation situations) and in the occasion that high hats won't fit due to obstruction. 3) It's really bad to make people think That they can do this without training. The job you did is a best case scenario. You literally had open framing above you. The other thing I want to note is that there's a lot of factors in codes such as grounding to metal boxes, Wire fill for heat, proper crimping of connections, And many other factors that make it dangerous for somebody to wire their own home. 4) wire your switch leg in 3 wire - this is more a preference. It gives you the ability to add things in the future such as a center light or a fan with next to no additional cuts. 5) Wholesaw's work great on drywall, But they will make a plaster wall crack in so many areas and the other thing is you need to check for framing before you go cutting a 6" hole in a ceiling. So pilot holes at 1/8 of an inch or even a quarter of an inch so that you can stick a fish or a wire up there and spin it in a circle and feel for studs in either direction. I'm an old work electrician. I'm not trying to debate you or make you feel like crap because I think your work looks great. It's more advice for you and anybody watching your channel before they go and do something they're not capable of. I definitely recommend getting an oscillating tool as opposed to using whole saws. One last thing I want a note I don't like using wafers Unless I have to. Especially when it comes to Ceilings that are below attics that are not finished. You are exposing your house to all Types of shit like lead and such, especially in older homes. When properly installed(patched if needed) high hats seal off your ceiling so that even when you pull the trim or the light out your ceiling is still closed. Wafers on the other hand cannot be said the same of. And there's no guarantee 20 years down-the-line when your light dies that you're gonna be able to find that exact same light component to rehook to that Box. By then everything could have changed. And they claimed the last 25 years but haven't been around long enough to prove it. Commercial electric makes far better canned versions where you'll actually be able to replace the light when it finally burns out, and you can actually get a wide selection of trims instead of 1 boring ass option your stuck with
