I’ve just had a mountain bike given to me....for free! It looks pretty good. There’s a mechanical disc brake on the front. But it’s not very good. So i might change that for a hydraulic disc brake; either 160mm or 180? Unfortunately on the rear.... as you can see.. it’s V-brakes only. Do you think it would be quite easy to fit an a adapter? I might keep the wheel... and have a go at replacing the hub... just for a bit of experience. Tuesday afternoon at 12:58H. 30th March 2021. U.K. 🇬🇧 Southampton.

#1 reason cyclists want disc brakes on their bikes is because there is no need to true the rims when you have disc brakes. The rotor brake is wholly independent of the rim itself. ;-)

As someone who has bikes with disc brakes, you don't get them to stop the bike, because they are never as good as rim brakes, even in the wet.

@@Destin65 you've obviously got them set up very badly as my disc brakes would have you over the handlebars if yoj applied them to sharply. They are Clarkes M2 hydraulics that come with a rotor and all fixing bolts for 20 sovs per wheel. Cheap and very effective at the price of an half decent tyre.

I can already see a problem with this. 1. You cant take off the wheel now without removing the bracket more hassle when you get a flat tire on the road. 2. The bracket is not greatly secured on the frame cause in ths vid you can see it wobbles side to side. Making for uneven stopping power and uneven wear in pads.
