Hi just wondering do roms have to be unzipped? I noticed in your video you used Tekken 3 as an example game on the PSX and because it has 3 .BIN files the games menu in Recalbox lists the game 3 times, that's a bit untidy. I was hoping if all the .BIN files and .CUE file were zipped the Recalbox would just display the name of the .ZIP file so you only get one listing for the game.

Nice Video Prime, however I ran into the black screen when attempting to run n64 game using the USB storage method. I've also tried editing the recalbox.conf with the video resolution. Have you run into similar?

Hi ETA Prime, was wondering where you get your roms from? Watching the video you dont mention this, they are just there in the folder ready for you to transfer to the 64gb stick. i ask because im havin problems getting game roms i downloaded to run through MAME emulator on Recalbox, i got the Raspberry Pi3 with Recalbox and hundreds of games already running on it but i want to add more. For example i download Rainbow Islands rom for MAME copy across to the Roms folder like you said, the game shows up in MAME after restarting Recalbox and i even managed to scrape the game image as well. But when i go to start the game, it black screens then goes back to the game list screen. Tried with a few others aswell like Metal Slug 6 on MAME & same thing happens. Im a total noob at this, am i missing a bios for the game in the Recalbox bios folder or something? Really appreciate any help from you or your followers, thanks.

my recalbox wont recognize my usb when plugged in the raspberry 4. so I selected in storage device ´anyexternal´, so recalbox reboot and freezes right at the beginning with the pacman thingies, my usb has been properly formatted FAT32. any suggestion?

Where do you get your bios and roms I've done looked on a lot of sites and some of the ones I got and would like to play won't the screen turns black and it goes back to the main menu? But other games I've downloaded will what am I doing wrong

I’m using a usb stick to run recalbox on my raspberry pi 4. Should I select “any external” source for storage before I reboot? It doesn’t work when I select my second usb stick. After I reboot nothing loads at all.

I have a whole romset of PS1 games. I am going to need a bigger external drive then a 64GB SD. I want to use my portable 2TB drive. Will it work (the versions of recalbox are now more advanced) and do I have to try and format it to FAT32? I will also be using this in a cabinet setup, as what I bought gave me no option to play my own roms. Will I be able to setup the joysticks and buttons ok? Also, I am going to be losing the stock 14000 games that came with this console. It would be a tedious job to search for all the games from all those different emulators. Is that the way I'm going to have to go about it, or are there places that I can get a single download of all different games from all different emulators/consoles? I really like Recalbox due to its simplicity and running everything out of the box without messing with a ton of settings or editing config files like with Retropi. The N64 emulation on Recalbox runs much smoother then with Retropie on my Pi 3. The only thing which forced me to use Retropi is using my PS3 controller wirelessly. Recalbox cannot use the internal bluetooth of the Pi 3 to connect the PS3 controller while Retropi can do this. Or is there any other way to connect a PS3 controller wirelessly to Recalbox (without buying an extra compatible bluetooth adapter)? I also like the idea of a hotkey in Recalbox very much! In fact I find using the PS home or the Xbox guide button well suited for this purpose (standard in Recalbox). Retropie instead uses start + select to exit emulation but not keeping in mind that certain games use this button combo (e. g. in PSX Tekken 3 to return to the main menu). It is a bummer to have to manually edit config files in Retropi to reassign the hotkey button.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses, recalbox does seem to run n64 better out of the box due to the resolution and settings used, it is a bummer that it won't work the PS3 controller and onboard Bluetooth "fingers crossed next release will have it working.

You can set up the hotkey in retropie to whatever you want. I use select as my hot key for exiting a game. select+r1 to reset a game and select + playstation button for game core menu. But i could change the hotkey to the playstation button if I wanted. it is in the options menu.

Josh Lineberry But unlike in Recalbox you cannot set the hotkey in Retropi via a menu entry. I had to edit a config file to change the hotkey to the PS3 button. It is also recommended if you use different controllers (e. g. PS3 and Xbox 360) to edit the specific controller config files because the PS3 and Xbox 360 button are using different button number assignments! I also updated the Retropi script to v4.0.0 beta 2. Now the configuration menus are much cleaner and organized. After updating the emulators the N64 emulation runs much smoother. My latest issue is that I cannot access the runcommand (the grey field showing before launching a N64 game) and thus I am not able to change the emulator (glide64rice etc.) even if I push the "a" button (should be the x button on my PS3 controller). All in all Recalbox seems to work out of the box, is userfriendly and pretty much optimized. Nevertheless it lacks compatibility (e. g. lack of PS3 wireless controller support, missing PSP emulator). Retropi on the other hand needs a lot of fine tuning by editing a lot of files (e. g. disable overscan, switch a and b button in the main menu, enable hotkey in N64 emulation, change hotkey to another button).

Man I tried and tried if I copy recall box over to my SD card my pi doesn't boot. I install retro pie with etcher and instant boot runs fine.

i recommend it to use with. only disadvantage is kodi needs some google api keys. its apps and emulation software is so good.

After the installation hit 100%, it went to restart and it just showed the rainbow screen for a second, then went black...let it sit there for about 20 minutes... do you have to insert the USB at that time as well? Also, no using a disk imager? this is so frustrating!!!

no disk image for recalbox, it uses a similar method like Berry boot. the usb stick can go in later , have you tried installing again?

I tried 3 times last night and the third time I left it on overnight thinking it needed more time. But this morning still nothing. I am re-downloading the latest version of Recalbox right now and starting the process over..thinking maybe a file got corrupted or something. I will let you know how this attempt goes

So I did everything again from scratch... same thing... black screen after 100% install. Funny thing is though when I initially put the SD card in and begin installation, its a black screen..i have to unplug and plug the HDMI back in before I can see the loading screen. Unfortunately this does not work after the re-boot. I am using a HDMI to DVI adapter on my monitor...I am all out of ideas. Any help is greatly appreciated! I am using the latest 4.0.0 version which was released 10 days ago. ...Also, when I insert my SD card back into my computer, it automatically names it "RECOVERY"...

Thank you, sir. May have to give this a try tomorrow with a spare SSD and a low power USB/2.5" Sata adapter i've got kicking around. Don't think i'll see any performance benefits from SSD but it's stuff i've already got. I think the Pi will power it. Now a spinning 2.5" probably wouldn't fly.

I have not been able to get any Bluetooth controllers working in recalbox with the pi 3. they have not implemented the driver yet. the 8bitdo does work with retropie very well.

Hey ETA, just a small tip, I think you can do a directory scan after you copy the roms so you won't have to reboot. Also can you do a video about MAME? For games like Tekken 4 or tagteam etc.

hi just would like say great vid but I use a pc hard drive to run my roms and it works great I will say some thing I found out that I would love to share with all the peeps that are getting props with that the cant get there roms load when they have put them on a usb or hdd is when on pc do a repair the drive before you plug your drive back in your pie then see if your roms work then this I couldn't understand why I was have some many props but I learnt the had way so happy gaming peeps by the way if you to to run a pc hdd on your pie you have run a psu to run it
