After you setup the server and type in the key and launch it without automation.then you make the automater application. you can then go into user&groups and select your name in wich you use on osx and then go to Login Items and add the automater application it should run everytime you load up osx.

@stripedstriker1 nope you don't have to download the server and do this unless you want to run your own server off your computer as well, but even then what you want is the teamspeak 3 client for mac, thats how you will connect to your friends server, so you really don't need to pay attention to this.

You need to download and install the teamspeak client if you would like to connect to other servers, or your own. The client is what you use to login into servers and talk to other people once on the servers.

@Ograws yea you can use teamspeak under urban terror. Teamspeak should literally work for all games because it is its own separate program. You don't even need a game to run to use teamspeak.

@ehemeyer25 well i unfortunately don't have teamspeak infront of me, but if i do remember correctly, when you log in as server admin/ super admin. You can right click the name of the server at the very top once you are logged into the server, and you can change it from inside the server through that.

@Ograws alright, try deleting the client and server completely from your computer. And redownload them from the teamspeak website. That is about as much info I can give ya right now, until I reattempt this when I reinstall everything back on my macbook later.

@EnzoDrumminPeace give them your ip for your computer. They use that ip as the server adress. You can find your ip from whatsmyip(.)net . If you are on wireless internet you will have to port forward the ports for teamspeak on the router. Just youtube or google that, you should be able to figure out to do that relatively easily.

shell script is just what you typed into terminal, so your all good in that way. by opening teamspeak first, some file must have been moved so that is why the terminal (Shell Script) doesn't run properly.

If you get that error then go to your activity monitor and search for the TS3 server which is running and then force quit it. Once that is done you should try starting up the server again and it will work, that's how i did it and it worked just fine :)

@ehemeyer25 umm i dont think it is anymore like teamspeak 2 if i remember right, I havent actually been on teamspeak in a long ass time. I believe terminal gives you a token, or a password to log into the server and everything can be maintained in the server itself, i think.

Thanks for subscribing! If you have a wireless internet connection to the computer hosting the server, you will most likely need to portforward, portforward(.)com should help with that. You need to give your friends your ip address, whatsmyip(.)net should help you with that.

@camtheman41 you gotta give them your computer ip, not that ip. whatsmyip(.)net. If you are on a router, you will need to portforward the ports to use, a simple youtube search of "port forward teamspeak 3" should return results in that case.

@Ograws go to "whatsmyip(.)net" he is going to want to use that ip address to connect. I am not sure what port it is currently because I just wiped my macbook, but from memory I think 9987 is the correct port.

@Ograws he just needs the teamspeak client, so he doesn't need to follow this video at all. Are you running snow leopard (10.6) or leopard (10.5)? The reason why my teamspeak 3 server doesn't work is because it is extremely out dated lol, once I get my macbook up an running again i'll redo the server maybe. My guess for the part at 2.09 is to open automator (wait is there a menu there at all like that?) then go to file new, then select application.

@mos68x what u could do is open up that automator application u created with automator and run it from automator to see what kind of errors you get.... BUT if you did re-download a new server it won't work for that automator most likely so u may have to redo the automator :( but yeah changing locations shouldnt affect the automator app... and remember that whenever u go back to in-laws router. your ip may change so u can actually go to system preferences and set to a specific 1 so u dont have to

@RK9ify you have to tell terminal where the directory is. Type no quotes "cd thepathwherethefolderis" if you can't figure that out, google should help you.

@randomtechdude thanks, I deleted that post since i figured out what the problem was. I didn't have the process totally completed for the port forwarding with the in-law's router. But....oddly enough, the automator that I created for the server startup doesn't work. I'm not at home, I'm at the in-laws, so I'm not sure if that has something to do with it or not.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. The only problem I'm having is that when I try to connect to the server, I don't have the option to put in a port number, and so it fails to connect. Do you have any idea what I can do about this? @Gruzzniotre Sorry I am a day late, ok so if I understand you correctly, when you start the program, you don't get the icon in to menu bar on the top of the screen that is like a spinning wrench. Turns out that I do not get this icon all the time either, I think it is a glitch on the side of teamspeak. But, the little wheel thing, even though it says that it can quit the teamspeak server, it for some reason does not, and you have to open activity monitor and quit the application through there.

But for the ip problem, you will need to find out what the ip adress of your mac is. whatsmyip(dot)net is a good way, but if your on a wireless connection, you will have to portforward some ports, if you just youtube or google "port forward teamspeak 3" that should come up with some results. Lemme know if this helps or if you need more help :)

@randomtechdude I've retracked and done the Terminal commands again but now when I open TeamSpeak Client 3 application I enter the same information at 1.13 but now the application says Failed to connect to server. What's wrong now?

@hothead615 hey, that is pretty messed up. I googled "Unable to find valid license key, falling back to limited functionality" and it looks like you need to download a license key for some odd reason, go ahead a try downloading the server from the internet again, if that doesn't work try finding a license key dl. MAKE SURE you are an admin on the mac you are doing this on, that seems like it could be a problem.

@randomtechdude I tried the easy reboot the computer and it worked after that, not sure what happened but oh well. Everything works so far, just need to make sure that it works fine when I get back home, and then of course when I come back here again.

@16PIM16 if you are on wireless internet, you most likely will have to port forward certain ports on your router., just search it on youtube, i am sure plenty of people have done tutorials on that. If you are on regular wired internet, just give people your ip from whatsmyip(dot)net. Oh after you port forward if you have wireless internet connection, you will want to use that same ip that you get from whatsmyip(dot)net and give that to people to connect to.

Is it so hard to just follow the video or the description. The standard directory is your home folder, Therefor you need to chance directory aka CD. type in terminal cd cd /Applications/teamspeak3-server_mac ./ts3server_mac or where your teamspeak folder is. Then type ./ts3server_mac

+Jack of All Trades and Master of a Few I made it work by finding the ts3server exec file and dragging it to terminal and dropping into place where the second command ./ts3server_mac was supposed to go, then hit enter. The exec is within the main folder, so opening the downloaded folder is as far as one needs to dig.

If your friend is trying to connect to your server outside of your network (home or work) he wont be able to without using a service like Hamachi. Hamachi essentially takes your private internal IP and forwards it through an external IP so other people can connect.

Promthanius Its because you saved it as a "workflow" when you saved the automator file. Try it again and when you save it and make sure the dropdown box has "application" in it. Then try to run it again.
