Interesting I was told by an engine builder that you can't replace MQB EA888 Gen3 cams without replacing the upper and lower cam bridges. Because they're cut to match each other for clearance reasons

Did your Golf R have a cam plate reseal done incorrectly at one point in time?

Since you said your tech had it off (cam plate/cam cover same thing) when the intake was off. I’ve seen the cams get damaged if they aren’t supported correctly and when the cover is reinstalled in some cases. Not that you care or it matters now. Just thought it was interesting. Can’t wait for you to enjoy the car.
