Thank you for compiling this! Just my 2 cents - in regards to '2 minutes boot time delay' - I fixed this with command: "sudo systemctl disable systemd-networkd-wait-online". Now the VM boots almost instantly! Everything works as expected, Network, etc. Haven't played with different Network Configurations afterwards (by default it is NAT), so I cannot say what would be the outcome of this in long run...

Fore years, I've run Linux in a VM alongside maczoS on a late 2015 27" 5k iMac. Now that Apple will officially no longer support it after Monterey support runs out this fall, I've started to test Linux (Ubuntu 24.04) as the host OS. So far I have no complaints and things run really well

Great tutorial! I'm just curious about one thing: was there a particular reason you chose to use the server iso of Ubuntu and manually install the desktop environment instead of using the desktop iso for the initial creation of the VM?

Because in desktop one the "amd" is there but if we select the server then we can choose " arm64 " version which isn't the case while downloading desktop one. and since M1 is based on arm64 architecture so he chose arm64 (server mode instead of desktop one).

This is a bug currently with UTM. As of know it wont work as intended.

Try to disable that feature and use ubuntu with software rendering mode. VMWare sometimes is finicky running on newer Macs.

not sure why but videos run really slow...there's serious glitching - I tried turning 3d acceleration off ... ive given in 13GB memory and 4 cores .... Im running on an M3Pro with tonnes of available memory

You can first install it on internal storage then move the VM Image to the External SSD and try to load the VM from there.
