Your simple tutorial has saved me again, thank you! Third time I've had to scour KZbin as a non-dev to figure this out, and coming across your vid. Still liked, and subscribed! :D

I followed your tutorial and everything worked out perfect with me having zero to little knowledge. Big Thank you! It would be great to see what you can actually do with the ubuntu server on the RPi-4. I didn't find any tutorial, picking up from where the server is running, on youtube.

So both ubuntu and raspberrypiOS are very similar so generally if you can do it on one, you can do it on another. However Ubuntu gets more security updates (faster) and is better designed for hosting web applications

I agree with your Ubuntu statement. Can you do a video on running/booting Ubuntu Server (headless) from a UBS instead of the SD card?
@SpaceRexWill
@SpaceRexWill 3 жыл бұрын
Its actually the exact same steps as my other video (headless raspberryPi) just install raspbian on the SD card the very first time just to make sure your firmware holds. But follow that video and once you get to the point where you are installing raspbian on the SSD, install ubuntu server instead!

Hmm... Ubuntu Server or Raspberry Pi OS Lite - which one is best for a web and email server? I can see your points about ubuntu server, although others seem to argue that as the Raspberry Pi OS Lite is built for the pi, it's optimised for it. Great video btw!
@overPowerPenguin
@overPowerPenguin 2 жыл бұрын
You can easily upgrade the Ubuntu Server and you also got a heck ton of support for Ubuntu Server if something blow up, but the Raspberry Pi OS recommends a clean install for each new upgrade release and that's a deal breaker for something you want to update from time to time.

Old info. Right now it's 23.04, and it's asking about some ssh raining dance. You should access to RP without having access to RP. Because you can't connect to it without having ssh keys. But you can not copy them because you can' t connect. Round.

I know there are a few videos out there that does Pfsense on servers. But not a good one for Pfsense on raspberry pi. Would you be up to doing one like that? I learn a lot from your videos because you not only tell people the correct way but you actually show them as well. Thank you for all your videos you have shared with us.

@@SpaceRexWill true. But raspberry pi 4 has usb 3 so that would be enough speed to handle that for gigabyte speeds. Well won’t be that fast however it still be faster the the 10/100mb one.

I love your tutorials and have used several. I have a Raspberry Pi 4 running Nextcloud from your tutorial from a few months back. I am about to replace the external hdd with an external ssd. Would I be better off setting up the RP4 as an Ubuntu server for Nextcloud instead of staying with the RP4 OS?
@SpaceRexWill

In general I would feel better about opening up a Ubuntu Sever instance to the internet before PiOS as the LTS version is going to get security updates pretty much as soon as possible

Hey, I have a problem setting up Ubuntu. I installed it on my SC card exactly as you did, however if i plug it into my raspi the screen just stays black. When logging into my router I can see that the connection to the raspi is "not used", even though i got a Network cable plugged into it. That yellow/green light isn't lieghting aswell. Have you got any idea/tips what's wrong?

Too bad the current Ubuntu server image transfer rates are hindered when using usb boot to m.2 and usb. I’ve only been able to get 19MB/s versus 33MB/s on raspberry pi OS.

@@SpaceRexWill That 's what I thought too until i tested with 2 different versions of Ubuntu server on 2 different Pi 4 with the same result when using sending/receiving files over 1Gig connections as if it still think its 10/100 yet all ethernet link connections on the pi show gigabit. note this is without an SD card using usb boot only

Ubuntu has the Plex Media Server Ubuntu Appliance specifically for Pi 3+B and Pi 4, but I can't find any one who is using it for Plex Media Server. It's very light weight (471Mb download), but commands are not the same as full Ubuntu (its killing me that things I have learned in linux is almost useless.
