I have a beard and a beer (or 2) here in Elgin, Texas. I have 2 Rpi 4 8G units and a 1B+ in house and am waiting for 6 CM4s (8G ram) with IO boards. I have built a pi DNS and a multiboot system using BerryBoot, with the goal of getting the grub boot loader to work. You are right about the pi 4 not being stout enough to run VMs, but a cluster of 6 multiboot systems where you can control what's running where is cool. Essentially, I am building a home cloud/lab so I can learn the ends and outs of things like K8s, Ansible, Docker, ... . I was a chip designer most of my career, retired now, and want to learn all of this just because. Your channel is one of cool knowledge share tools helping an old soul like me. In addition to what you said the Raspberry Pi also makes a great Pi-hole / VPN machine. PiVPN is one way to go but I only have experience using Wireguard on the Pi which has worked GREAT. The touchscreen that you have for the Pi is awesome I'll definitely be looking into it for my next Pi. My current Pi is headless as a GUI is not needed and it lowers memory usage.

So, I inherited a raspberry PI from a friend when he moved to VA for his career change, never understood coding in high school, don’t know much about electrical engineering or electrical work outside of residential. I’ve always hated my crim justice major in college, it’s boring but an easy degree so I pick up a lot of hobbies to keep myself entertained. ANYWAY, what I am hoping to find from someone here is where I should start, I’d like to learn and understand coding more, I’d kind of like to do some hacking/network probing, nothing malicious, more just for fun and kind of messing around, controlling things would be cool too. Hoping to find where I can start, thanks y’all

Chuck, I am currently doing a Cybersecurity degree. The more knowledge I gain, the more I see that certifications hold more weight than a degree but, nevertheless, both certifications and a degree are the ultimate goal for the profession. What I want to know in your opinion, should I stop and get going on obtaining LPT then finish my degree? Background, I’m in the military and within 2 years of exiting and won’t have the tuition assistance (which I can use for both a degree or certifications) after that, so where and what would be more beneficial to me to get my foot in the door knowing my situation.

Dude, my first computer was an Atari ST with the motherboard and disk drive built into the keyboard. I had a Commodore 64 with a tape drive and a Nimrod. I feel old, but grateful I got to use computers that took 10 minutes just to boot up.

Hi! What i did with some pi's 4 years ago was a wifi sniffer using some big alpha antennas connected and detecting mobile phones distance and moving speed.

Beard and Scotch. We do have some nice craft beer locally too. For me the brew is a summer thing. Thank you for the Rasp Pie layout. It gives me another device to play or work with and the Mrs, will not complain about another with the desktops and laptops I have around the house. Is 7 too many? Only 3 adults in the house. If you guessed me to be a grey haired kid, you might be right! Cheers!

8:54 If you hate losing all your tabs (as I do), I recommend this chrome extension called session buddy, it basically records all your tabs in sessions and when it reaches like 12 pm, it saves all the tabs you currently have and starts a new session, you can also manually save sessions. Not affiliated or anything, just a fan.

I was going to use it because I moved into these new apts by the lake in the colony/lewisville TX and they tried to charge me an obscene amount for a additional key(rfid proxy) and on top of that they charge if you happen to forget to give your wife her keys back! Sooo, I was mainly going to do it to show them how dumb their smart keys really are!!

MotionEyeOS is a really cool OS for the Pi. It turns your Pi into a camera server that has auto recording etc. Just plug in a cheap USB web cam and you're good.

Another great use is video surveillance. Kerberos video surveillance system, with Escam QH002 and QD300 IP cameras, makes for a cheap and versatile system. Still in the process of building one myself.
